Steel Magnolias coming to Huron Country Playhouse
GRAND BEND • Steel
Magnolias is a play concerned with
a grouprof gossipy southern women
in a small town beauty parlor.
Together these womcn will share
their stories which will touch
everyone's heart.
Written by Robert'Harling back
in the 1980's. this show is based on
his experiences as a little kid.
Growing up in Louisiana, Harling
can remember his mother going to
the local beauty talon every
Saturday morning to join the other
women. For about two hours the
men of the town became women
less. wondering what the women"
could actually be doing.
Harling thought this was "just
plain ignorance". which led him to
writing this play. He didn't know
anything about beauty parlors. but
he did know what emotional drives
he wanted to portray. He has come
•
up with a show that can emotional-
ly affect both woollen and even
men. A story where every audience
member can relate to at least one
character or their story.
Steel Magnolias has received
Critical acclaim along with a Outer
Critics Award nomination and -a hit
movie starring Julia Roberts and
Dolly Parton. So sit back and'expe-
rience what really happens on those
Saturday mornings in Louisiana.
