celebrates 30th anniversary
EXETER - Community Living -
South Huron celebrated its 30th an-
niversary Thursday night on an op-
timistic note. -
President Paul Turnbull praised
the new administrator Bruce Shaw
and the staff for their efforts during
the past year.
A settlement has been negotiated
with former administrator John
Gray and Shaw has taken over on a
fee-for-service basis.
During the past year, Community
Living -South Huron has imple-
mented a plan to down -size the
management team to move re-
sources to the front lines for direct
care. The waiting list for res-
idential, employment or in-
dependent living support services
has been eliminated.
The financial picture looks good
for CL -SH.
"in light of all the financial re-
sponsibilities in the 1997/98 fiscal
year, Community Living -South Hu-
ron maintained a relatively healthy
financial position," treasurer Tom
Consitt reported.
Of special note, the Flowers of
Hope Campaign exceeded its goal
of $18,500 by raking more than
$20,000. Gordon Hill of Varna co-
ordinated the 250 door-to-door can-
vassers who made the campaign a
success. •
The Oakwood . Inn Mixed In-
vitational Golf. Tournament will be
held June 25. Last year, the tourna-
ment donated $8,000 to CL -SH to
purchase a powered wheelchair and
a hospital -style bed.
Dashwood Wood Products saw
dramatic progress in sales during
the past year. Sales went from
$280,000 in 96/97 to $400,000 dur-
ing the past year, according to
manager Harry Stuart's report.
Three new directors have come
on board: JoAnne Pickering, Judy
Simmons and Gerald Forster. They
join Turnbull, Consitt, Helen
Boogemans, Nelly Steckle, Donna
Greb, Ann Klungcl and Ed Lak-
smannis.
Community Living -South Huron
is a non-profit organization pro-
viding support to individuals with
developmental challenges, ena-
bling them to participate and con-
tribute to all aspects of family and
community life.
Friends of Community Living -South Huron provided musical entertainment at the annual meet-
ing Thursday night in Exeter.
Morrison Dam has lots of friends
Fine friends. The South Huron District High School Concert and Jazz bands performed the
annual Spring Concert at the school's small gym on Sunday. The intermediate band is pic-
tured here. This year the event was a fundraiser for the Friends of the Morrison, the vol-
unteer group who are working towards maintaining and improving the Morrison Dam con-
servation area since most govemment funding for recreation dried up in recent years. The
concert was to be held at the conservation area, but the threat of rain forced the move to
the school. Friends of the Morrison spokesperson Peter Raymond said the group's first
"work party" to construct benches along the trail and do other maintenance is set for July
25. The bench project that was requested by seniors who use the area was bolstered by a
$1,500 grant from Molson as part of its Local Heroes program. For more information on the
Friends of the Morrison, call Raymond at 235-0303. For more information on the Morrison
Dam and the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority, call 235-2610.
