at a book signing she organized at the T -A on Friday. The
book provides short exposes on the origins of 73 western
Ontario communities including Exeter. Boyle, from Parry
Sound, said Ontario Memories is the first of three or four
volumes that will document how Ontario communities came
to be. Boyle is working on his next book which will tell the
tales of haunted public buildings throughout the province.

Woman celebrates 92nd birthday

SAINTSBURY - Mary Davis
celebrated her 92nd birthday with a.
family dinner on Wednesday at the
home of daughter and son-in-law
Janett and Jim Barker in Lucan.
Other guests were Hugh and Hazel
Davis, Alexia Tindall and grand-
daughter Jean Richardson. Visits to
the. Exeter Villa from family and
friends from Lucan, Exeter and
area made her birthday very spe-
cial, along with all the phone calls,
cards and gifts. .
On Saturday. 25 women from
Exeter, Grand Bend and London
enjoyed the afternoon at the Dohb's
, residence as Pat Dobbs and daugh-
ter The Rev. Patricia Dobbs Luxton
held a bridal shower honoring The
Rev. Fay Patterson, rector of Trivitt
Memorial Church, rector of Trivitt
Memorial church in Exeter and St.
John's By The Lake, Grand Bend.
The house was decorated with
flowers, candles and balloons.
Maude Cannon provided beautiful
music prior to the presentation of
the gifts. Rev. Patterson expressed
her thanks. Margaret Carroll and
Hazel Davis were guests from St.
Patrick's.
Saturday at 7 p.m., Si Patrick's
celebrated their Evening Prayer set -
vice with Suzanne Davis leading.
She was assisted by Rose
Cunningham reading the scripture
lessons and giving a message enti-
tled "Jesus Love and Forgiveness."
The children's focus was entitled
"Now That We're Alone".
They sang Happy Birthday to
Courtney MacGillivray who cele-
brated. her 18th birthday on.June
21. The Rev. Stanley Jay will be at
St. Patrick's to celebrate the Holy
Eucharist at 10:30 a.m.
On Saturday evening the Davis'
attended a wedding reception at the
Goderich Township Hall,
Holmesville, honoring Fayeanne
and Bryan Beattie, whose marriage
took place at Wesley -Willis. United
Church in Clinton.
Fayeanne is the daughter of.
Sharon and Wayne Love of Varna
and granddaughter of Gladys Davis
of Exeter and the late Clarence
Davis.
• Suzanne Davis, Travis and Starr
visited with aunts Theresa Glavin
of Mount Carmel and Jeannette Lee
of Aylmer on the weekend.
Starr Davis attended a birthday
party on Saturday honoring friend
Mirjam Veldman on her ninth
birthday.
Harley Davis is racing this week-
end in Pennsylvania, USA.

Berries harvested at Blue Water Rest Home
ZURICH - The residents of Bfue
Water Rest Home gathered in the
auditorium for an afternoon of
"Shake and Sip". With the weather
conditions too chilly for the court-
yard, the residents preferred the
auditorium temperature for their
raspberry and caramel delight.
Adjuvant Cathy Shantz and Hobby
Room Convener Ann McBride
assisted the residents and played
background parlor music.
With strawberry season, resi-
dents Elda Wagner, Marie
Gingerich, Mabel Riley, Frieda
Moore, Clara Hamilton, Bob
Carson, Beatrice McNab, Mabel
Kyle and Dorothy Bapty formed a
working bee to hull and slice fresh
strawberries from the garden
picked by Auxiliary volunteers
Martha Risi and Maria Mathonia.
The berries were enjoyed at the
evening meal.

'Bend man hurt
putting out fire
BOSANQUE'F - A Grand Bend
man was treated and released from
hospital after he.tried to put out a
fire at about 10 a.m. on Sundayat a
vacant strip mall at 6320 Lakeshore
Rd.
Ryan Woods, 20, was driving by
the strip mall when he saw the fire.
He called the local fire department
then tried to put the fire out himself
with little success, North Lambton
OPP said.
Woods was taken to hospital and
treated and released for smoke in-
halation.
Upon further investigation, the
OPP found the fire to be accidental.
Old rags containing metholhydratc
were deemed the cause of the fire
that caused about $2,000 damage.

and Bernicc Kennedy who cele-
brate birthdays during the month' of
June, received small gifts from the
Auxiliary. Auxiliary 'volunteers
Margaret and Mary Gingcrich
helped serve refreshments to the
guests.

Gospel Hall, Grand Bend conduct-
ed Thursday afternoon Chapel
Service. Fr. Matthias Wronski, St.
Boniface Church, Zurich celebrated
Mass.
"Diana, Queen of Hearts" was
the Monday afternoon movie: The

Condolences to the family and
friends of the late Beatrice (Beatty)
Julia Geoffrey who passed away in
her 76th year at South Huron
Hospital, Exeter the evening of
June 9. She became a resident at
the Home in September 1997. Her
husband Clarence also passed away
the afternoon of June 9 at South
Huron Hospital, Exeter. The com-
munity extended their deepest sym-
pathy to the family of the couple in
their great loss.
