Fury still winless after loss to Nairn
EXETER - The. Exeter Fury
were unsuccessful in their two at-
tempts this • week in their bid to
notch their- first win of the season
in Western Ontario Soccer League
Division -HI action.
The Fury lost at home on Sunday
4-3 to Nairn in what player Jason
McFalls called a "tightly played
contest."
Exeter was behind 3-) at half-
time and -then mounted a comeback
that included three .straight goals
before Nairn scored the winner late
in the game.
Fury player Tim Proctor started
their comeback by winning a race
to a loose ball and pushing it over
the charging keeper.
A few minutes later Craig Hern
made an excellent cross that Chris
Uenttner managed_to head into the
corner to bring the Fury within one
goal.
'Souban inlakahana tied the game
at three apiece when he beat a de-
fender and, found the back of the
-net with his shot.
The momentum seemed to be on
Exeter's side after keeper Matt
DenHollander made an outstanding
save on a penalty shot to keep the
score even.
The home team jubilation didn't
last long as a Nairn player jumped
on a loose ball and blasted it off the
post and in for the winning goat.
Fury sweeper Ryan Hern stopped
two shots that were headed in an
open net to keep the score close.
On Wednesday. the Fury lost a
blow-out Cup game to host Wood-
stock 8-0.
McFalls said the shorthanded Ex-
eter squad started the game at a dis-
advantage that was deepened ,after
defender Joe Forrester left early in

Bogart to pilot the Jr. D Hawks
By Craig Bradford.
T -A Reporter
EXETER - Scott Bogart hopes to• helm his
hometown Jr. D Hawks hockey club to the highest
level as its. new coach. .
The Hawks executive made it official on Monday
after rumors abound in town that Bogart was the
man. -to take over from outgoing coach/G.M., -Dave
Revington.
Revington, who steered' the Hawks to an all -
Ontario .championship in '95/96 and
led them to the final last season, left
the team at the end the. playoffs due
to a career opportunity in the U.S.
and to simply get a break after many
years behind the bench with the
Hawks. the Exeter Sr. A Mohawks
and the Lucan Jr: D Irish.
Though less experienced than Rev-
ington, Bogart brings a wealth of
hockey experience to the Hawks. Bo-
gart coached the Exeter Midget Gen-
erais to the all -Ontario title' in. '91/92
during his five year sone frim '88/89
to '93/94.
After • the Exeter Generals he
coached the Irish for two winning seasons. Before
his junior hockey coaching days, Bogart coached in
the Exeter Minor .Hockey system.
Bogart describes himself as an "active" coach and
will bring a hands-on approach to the club. He said
the style of game he'll coach depends on the skills
the players will bring to the ice and he expects his
players to he disciplined and to "follow the game
plan:
Bogart has hired 'Dave Dalrymple and Steve Mat --
thews as his assistants. Dalrymple, another Exeter
native, has coached the Exeter Midgets for the past
few seasons. Matthews, of Arva, coached the Ilder-
ton Bantams for the past two years and played two
of his four years with the Irish under Bogart's tu-
telage and had the reputation as a hard nosed player.
Bogan said he's ready to fill Revingt rn's big
shoes.
"I'm looking forward to the challenge," he said on
Monday. "Rev and the boys (assistants Barry Bayn-
ham and Dean Schram who have also left the fold)
have left us with a good nucleus. I just hope I can •
keep up the. standard those guys have
set."
Between 13 and 15 players should
be hack with the Hawks next season
and it could move up to 17 if some
players don't find a spot on a Jr. B
• team.
Hawks president Tom McCann is
happy to welcome Bogart and his
staff to the club.
"it's great to be able to come up
with someone • with the experience
Scott has in minor and junior hock-
. ey." McCann said. "It's a bonus to
come up with someone local."
• McCann said that local angle, as well
as Bogart's reputation. should woo some of the lo-
cal players that were unsure of where they'd be next
season hack to the Hawks..
"We're happy we've finally got things resolved."
McCann said.
But the behind the bench picture for the Hawks
isn't clear yet. The club has yet to hire a G.M. and
McCann said the executive dont have any can-
didates lined up. For now McCann, vice-president
Bill Farquhar and Bogart will share the G.M. duties.
