Lucan's Holy Trinity Church
celebrates 90th anniversary
LUCAN - June, 1998 marks a
special milestone in the life of the
faith community of Holy Trinity
Church. Lucan. On a warm sunny
day 90 years 'ago, Anglican parish-
ioners gathered on site to witness
the laying of the foundation stone
for their new church, dedicating it
to prayer and praise offesus Christ.
A special service_ of celebration
and thanksgiving was held on Trin-
ity Sunday to mark this 90th Anni-
versary.
The rector, Rev. L. Bruce Po-
cock, assisted by Rev. Susan Steers
officiated at this Holy Eucharist.
Many in,the congregation had fami-
ly ties with 'the pioneer families
who built this beautiful church and
were pleased to join in celebration.
Our enthusiastic Senior and Jun-
ior Choirs' offered anthems of
praise and thanksgiving with lead -
.1 -ship from directors 'Vanessa
Clark and' Jackie Martens. Mrs.
:Phyllis,O'Neil had made a unique
banner to commemorate this mile-
stone. 'Karen ' Rapien, Sunday
School Superintendent in pioneer
costume, gave the Children's Talk.,
The theme for our celebration
was "Jesus Christ is the same yes-
terday and today and forever." Just
as -our forebears understood that
their focus must stay on Christ as
the cornerstone, we must with faith, .
maintain that focus to continue this
Christian witness into the futdre.
it was a pleasure to sec Mrs. Kay
Haggar and Mrs. Florence Hodgins,
two of our most senior parishion-
ers, both over 90 years of age, were
able to join us for the service. ,
A delicious catered barbecue fol-
lowed the :service, providing time
for reminiscing and Christian fel-
lowship. The Sunday Schdol lead-
ers offered picnic games for the
children, providing many squeal
of delight.
