the London Serbs to a 2-2 tie at
during their first home game of the
season at Canners Field on Sunday
afternoon.
The Fury got off to a slow start
and gave up an early goal. The
Fury tied the game on a strong in-
dividual effort by Darryl Thomp-
son. He carried the ball down the
right side and blasted a long shot to
the far corner of the net just before
half-time.
After falling behind 2-1 midway
through the second' half, Exeter
started to press for the equalizer.
Their efforts were rewarded in the
last two minutes when Pete McAl-
lister and Craig Hern out -muscled a
defender for a headhall and
knocked it over the ling with Hern
getting credit for the goal.
"The Serbs outplayed us pretty
badly," Fury player/spokesperson
Jason McFalls said. "We were
lucky to get a tic."

LUCAN —.The Lucan Jr. D Irish hockey club is
ahead of the competition when it comes to icing a
contending team next season. -
The Irish are the only club in its division that will
make it through the off-season with its coaching
staff intact. _ -
Co-head coaches Bill Bourne and Jason Bukala
will be hack behind the bench and manager Ken
Freeman will also return. .
"Stabilityis something everyone looks for in an
organization." Bukala said.
The stable coaching contingent means. Lucan has
had a head start in player recruitment. something
that gets more important as the summer unfolds
with training camp looming large at thr'end of Au-
gust.
The Irish have -another advantage — its rink is the
only one with year-round ice. .Bukala said they'll
take advantage of that by holding
mini -camps before the official
training camp opens.
. Another -bonus for the Irish is
the number of returning players
— up to 18 -may be back. though
Bukala said '15 is a safer number. •
Returning for sure arc: centre

Lucan can also sign two over-
age players. Overage' possibil-
ities include centre Mark Phil-

Jaremchenko. defencemen Jeremy Lamboum
and Mike Jaremchenko.
Moving on for sure arc captain

Forward Ben Dobbie may be
back with the Irish, but is slated
to tryout for the St. Marys Jr. B

and may also graduate.

— despite finishing first overall, the Irish were

"We, have to add more character to our lineup,"
Bukala said. "We didn't adjust our game to the
playoff style you have to play.' '
• Bukala admitted he and Bourne made a mistake
by
focussing so much on the regular season. While
the\ achieved all of their goals for the regular sea-.
son (least goals allowed, most goals scored and first
place). none of them mattered when the plavoff:s ar-
rived.
Bukala said thc returning players know they can
make another run at top spot and notch better
playoff results this season.
"The guys arc keen." he said.
"They know they are a first place
team."
