Jane Kuepfer of Seaforth Pastoral Charge was the guest speaker at Centralia•and Zion West United Churches. on May 17. Minister Heather Scott visited the Seaforth charge. The community offers prayers and sympathy to the family of Philip Johns who passed away on May 17.' May 24 'is Conference Sunday. 'Regular worship will not he held. instead, everyone is invited to par- ticipate in worship at 2 p.m. at Centralia College. The service will he geared for children. Rev. Glen Wright will be the ordination preacher. Also, billets are still needed. Please contact the London office if you arc able to assist with accommodation on Friday and Saturday nights. Upcomifig events Ordinary People Ministries will present the musical drama 'Mary' on May 24 at 7 p.m. at xetcr Pentecostal Tabernacle. Admission will be grocery items for the Food Pantry. At the end of the play, there will be a Love Offering. If you're able to partic ate, wor- ship will be held with t residents of Exeter Villa on May 27 7 p.m. at the Villa. Also on May 27 at 6:30 p.m., a Fun Night will be held at 6:30 p.m. for children at Centralia United Church. A Praise Rally to learn songs for the March for Jesus will he held on May 28 from 7:30 to 9 p.rn. at Faith Tabernacle Church. This year's cel- ebratory march will be May 30 beginning at 1:30 p.rn. in Exeter. The march will begin at the Christian Reformed church on Huron Street and will end at MacNaughton Park. Last year, over 10 million people in 100 nations took part in the March for Jesus. The WOTCH Community would appreciate assistance to purchase a new or used van. Members and friends are asked to donate plants, gardening tools, etc. The Hensall Parks Board will be hosting a Smart Serve Training Session on Wednesday, June 24. The session will be from 7 to 10:30 p.m., at the Hensall Community Centre. Smart Serve is a training program for servers, which outlines the skills of responsible service. The Smart Serve qualification was developed by the Ontario Hospitality Industry, and has replaced the previous training known as Server Intervention Program. Smart Serve highlights the prevention of problem situa- tions, as well as intervention when problems do arise. The training is useful for anyone involved in the provision of alcohol serving events. The list includes such persons as bartenders, wait staff, caterers, managers, owners, security staff, and special occasion permit hold- ers.Additional information is avail- able from the Hensall Arena (262- 3206) and Hensall Municipal Office (262-2812). Collection of Special Household Garbage will take place Monday, June 1, in the Village of Hensall. Residents should have items to the curb by 7 a.m. to ensure pickup. Special household garbage includes such items as: furniture, appliances (tagged freon free, if applicable), waste in containers. Metal items must be piled separately. Carpet must be rolled, and no longer than four feet; mattresses must be rolled and tied. Items which are not accepted include: tires, barbecue tanks, building materials, batteries, paint, or regular, taggable garbage.. Questions regarding the collection can be directed to the Hensall Municipal Office. Time is ticking away to nominate someone you know for recognition be recognized as a Hensall volunteer. Nominations are being accepted for: Civic Volunteer, Humanitarian Volunteer and Service to Sports. The selected volunteers will be rec- ognized at the Hensall Parks Board's Beef barbecue in August. This is the third annual barbecue, co -hosted by the Hensall Kinsmen and Firefighters. Nomination forms are available at the Municipal Office and Arena. The deadline for nomination submissions is Monday, June 1 at 5 p.m. Don't neglect this important opportunity to recognize the role of the volun- teer in our community. Kay Elder was chairperson and welcome all. she opened with a reading "The World Has Seen a Million Springs." The devotional was taken by Shirley McAllister, opening with an untitled poem by Jim Taylor. for their work She also read a portion from a book written by Robert Fulghum on "The Meaning of Life". Helen MacLean and Erla Coleman took up the offering which was dedicat- ed by McAllister. Laura Elder sang "These are a few of my favorite things" accom- panied by Joyce Pepper on the piano. The speaker for the evening was Betty Simpson of Glencoe who gave a history of hats, dating back to the early settlers, the Boer war, First World War, up to the Second World War. She modelled the hats and told interesting stories of each hat. The women were divided into four groups for a contest and lunch. The dessert.was hosted by Marg Cole, Hazel Corbett, Shirley McAllister and Kay Mock.
