Grand Bend LCBO's responsible drinking project
GRAND BEND - The Victoria Day weekend is an incredibly busy time
for the Grand Bend LCBO.
This year the store capitalized on their brisk business by launching a
unique campaign to promote responsible and safe drinking.
In conjunction with South Huron Dis-
trict High School's Ontario Students
Against Impaired Driving (OSAID) pro-
gram, Usborne Central, Zurich, St. Bon-
iface, Mt. Carmel Separate elementary
school students and local artist Denise Al-
drich, the store was decorated with 2,500
paper bags bearing hand drawn messages
ranging from "Don't forget your family"
to "Drive to Survive."
The bags were also used for customer purchases.
The store was initially approached with the idea by Aldrich who had
heard about a similiar project in Goderich.
"It is a great idea...when we told LCBO headquarters about the project
they were also very positive about the idea," said Grand Bend LCBO em-
ployee Denise Meidinger.
The LCBO donated the plain brown paper bags for the initiative.
Meidinger is hopeful the project will become a yearly event.
Store manager, Phil Overholt is also supportive about the project, "The
response so far to the bags by customers has been phenomenal."
A wall of Important reminders. Posing in front of just some of
the 2,500 decorated bags are Grand Bend LCBO staff (I -r), Bill
Millar, Cathy Glanville, Velma Labelle, Susanne Aveling, De-
nise Meidinger and Phil Overholt.
