At the Granton United Church on
Sunday, Val Hodgins of London
led the service when her sermon
was entitled 'A brand new vision'
based on the lessons from Revela-
tion 21 and John 13.
Emily Anne Young, daughter of
Tom and Pam (Waters) Young was
welcomed into the family of God
through .infant baptism by Pastor
Normalie Voakes. The choir sang
'One'of God's greatest gifts', the
'words of which were written by Jill
Westman.
At St. Pauls Anglican Church,
Kirkton on Sunday, May 10th the
Rev. Glenda Meakin led the service
of morning prayer. Her message
was based on Jesus Christ as the
way, the truth and the life and the
grace to love on another. The les-
sons were read by Candice O'Brien
and the minister.

Unit one went to Extendicare in
London on May 7 to celebrate the
89th birthday of a former member
Edna Wallis who is a resident
there. President Doreen McRoberi
opened the worship with a medita-
tion 'My priceless treasures-
friendtii .
The perennial tea at the church
on May 23 was announced and ar-
rangements made for the next meet-
ing. The Roll Call was answered
with readings and poems.. Edna
Wallis opened her gifts and cards
and thanked everyone. Doreen and
Madeline Hardieserved rum cake
and ice cream.
Unit 2 met at Julie Riddell's
home on May 4th. president Pam
Hayes led the discussion when
plans were furthered for the peren-
nial exchange at the - church on
May 23 at 1:30 p.m, There will be a
wagon ride for the Sunday School
after church on May 31 and a S.S.
picnic on June 28. Juke was in
charge of the program and told of -a
business called creative memories
and bcrapbooking. Tentative plans
have -been made for a workshop on
'September 15; 7•p.m. at the church.

2265. Dessert and tea were served
by the hostess.
Unit 3 met at Isabel Mardlin's
place in St. Marys on Tuesday eve-
ning, May 5..1n the absence of the
'president, Elizabeth Garrett opened
the meeting with a Mother's Day
blessing. The beef supperin the
park was announced for June 17
and Humber Valley United Church
will be visiting Granton United on
July 5. Helen Burnett and Ruth
Cook presented a program on
'bread', different meanings of the
-world and different kinds. Readings
and poems were given and the con-
venors served a lunch of•different
breads.
Unit five met ai the home of Ver-
neta Baker in St. Marys on Mon-
day, May 4. President Margaret
Spence opened the meeting with a
reading and meditation 'Family of
God'. The hymn 'This is my Fa-
ther's World' was read, followed
by prayer. Margaret read 'Rules of
three' and 'My Mother'.
Florence McRobert led the pro-
gram, rcading a poem `To Mother'
and lesson thoughts on the blessing
of work. She also read a poem
'Hands'; a story about bath night at
the old homestead, a reading 'None
like mother'. Concluding with two
oral contests, closing with thc
Lord's Prayer in unison. Lunch was
served by the hostess.
Saintsbury men conduct church service

SAINTSBURY - On May 9, St. Patrick's celebrated
their Mother's Day Evening Prayer service at 7 p.m.
with the men and boys.of the congregation taking part.
Hugh Davis was leader with Caleb and Corbin
MacGillivray assisting with•the•scripture readings.
Harley Davis led the Psalm and Bob MacGillivray read
the Holy Gospel and the message. ' •
The children's focus was based on Martin•the•
Cobbler. MacGillivray's message included a tribute to
mothers. The.men and boys sang an anthem entitled
"Wonderful Words of Life".
Travis Davis and Cody Kelley presented the offering
at the Lord's table.
Scrolls entitled "A Mother Is" were given to mothers
and grandmothers by the men. On May 17 The Rev.
Stanley Jay will be at St. Patrick's:to celebrate the
Holy Eucharist.
Mothers Day was a very, special day for the McFalls
and Tindall families when Dylan Ross Brasca• son of
,Walter" and Donna Brasca and Tate Elizabeth Tindall,
daughter of Robert and Lisa Tindall received the sacra-
ment of baptism at Centralia United Church. Both fam-
ilies held receptions following the service. Hazel Davis
was guest of the McFalls and Brasca families at the
home of David McFalls.
Hugh Davis entertained -his mother Mary Davis to
dinner in Exeter on Mother's Day. •
Several in the community were celebrating get
togethers with family on Sunday.
Hazel Davis, accompanied by nephew Darren
Simpson, attended the 151 Synod Service of the
Diocese of Huron at St. Paul's Cathedral on Sunday
evening and also attended Synod sessions at the
Convention Centre on Monday.
Hazel -Davis was dinner guest and overnight visitor
Sunday evening with sister and brother-in-law Joyce
and Ralph Simpson and nephew Darren.
Friday evening Hazel 'Davis accompanied several
cousins to a bridal shower honoring Fayeanne Love.

•granddaughter of Gladys Davis of Exeter and thc late

Varna community prepares for annual yard sale

VARNA -"The Stan Lee Club
held a meeting at the Complex
recently. President Charles Reid
told of his "talking chicken".
Bernice Reid read from a 1934
paper from Toronto "Song of the
Lazy Farmer." Bertha Taylor intro-
duced "Wally Dee" from Bayfield
who sang and'played the guitar for
them.
Twenty-seven members were in
attendance. Cards were played with
winners: High pink - Margaret
Armstrong, Low pink - Bertha
Taylor, High blue - Bob Peck, Low
blue - May McBride.
Last Friday evening a communi-
ty bridal shower was held in honor
of Fayeanne Love, daughter of
Wayne and Sharon Love. Sandra
Turner welcomed and thanked
everyone for coming. Tammy Peck
played a couple of numbers on the
piano. The Varna players provided
a humorous skit. Act 1 was "Six
Months Before the Wedding,
Panic" and Act 2 was the Wedding
Day.
Michelle Turner read the
address. Fayeanne thanked every-
one for the gifts. She will be marry-
ing, Brian Beattie on June 13 and
will be residing in Toronto.
A church service was held in
Varna on Sunday and the sacra-
ment of baptism was celebrated.
Megan Brianne, daughter of Rod
and Lori Merrier, granddaughter of
Barb and Tom Consitt and Garry
and Maxine Merrier, and great-
granddaughter of Grace Evans, was
christened.
Next Sunday, church will he held
in Goshen with the Goshen and
Varna U.C.W.'s leading the wor-
ship service. On May 24 there will
not be a service of worship at the
Varna -Goshen Pastoral Charge.
Everyone is invited and encouraged
to attend the Celebrities of
Ministries Service with London
Conference at 2 p.m. at the
International Academy in Huron
Park.
Tickets are available for the
Varna pork barbecue to be held on
June 17.
The annual Community Yard
Sale will be held at the Varna
Complex on May 16 and May 17.
The Trends will meet in
Brucefteld on Friday night at 7 p.m.
and the Teens will meet Sunday at
2 p.m. at the Brucefteld Church.
Women's Institute donates to telethon
THAMES ROAD - The annual meeting of the
Hurondale W.J. was held at Thames Road Church on
April 29 at 4:30 p.m. President Marian Dougall opened
the meeting with a spring verse; Institute Ode and
Mary Stewart Collect. The roll call was answered with
14 members paying their dues for next year.
A report of thc board meeting was read. The group
donated $50 to the Telethon for Children's Hospital.
Hurondale is to•have the "In Memoriam" at the District
Annual in Zurich on May 21. Articles to be made for
Exeter Fair were prepared by Grand•Bend W.I. Lois
McFalls gave a report on the sale of cheese. . . •
At 5:30 p.m. members sat down to dinner prepared
by two of the groups. When the meeting resumed, Fern
Dougall and Marian Dougall presented Lois McFalls
with a life membership. •

Seniors hear how Canadians played big role in war
EXETER - The Exeter Seniors
opened the April meeting with a
pot Tuck supper.
After President Lila Ellis opened
the regular meeting with 0 Canada
and the Lords Prayer, the program
committee took over the entertain-
ment.
Peter Vischer took the chair per-
son for the Vischer singing group.
Vischer spoke on how the Canadi-
ans played a big part in the war,
also on how their country was set
free. •
Vischer then read a poem 'Cana-
da We Can't Forget'.
The group sang several pieces
ending by singing 0 Canada.Mary
Ford read a poem. •
Birthday greetings were sang to
Mary Ford, Vera Armstrong, Dean
Smith and Doris Denham.

and Jean Noels on their 56th.
