Dear Editor:
Enclosed is a poem that 1 have composed about my mother. It is my
belief that all mothers are special people, but 1 especially have been
blessed with one of the finest. It is her exceptional qualities that
inspired this poem and it is my hope that if selected, she will read it in
your paper and know just how very special she is to me and all those
who love her.
Sincerely,
Anne Vandeworp
For The World's Greatest Mom
How is it one small world like "Mom"
Can mean so many things?
How could any single word describe
The happiness she brings?
Her green eyes smile sweetly
And you know with just one look
She sees into your very soul
And reads you like a book.
She's an understanding ear
When the whole world has you down;
And the first to make a smile appear
Where once there was a frown.
A laugh is always better
When it is shared by two,
And the laughter heard from mother's voice
Sounds sweeter still to you.
Her heart is very fragile
It breaks more often than most do,
For a piece of it goes everywhere
To feel life's trials with you.
As a child sweet dreams would come
With every kiss goodnight,
And even now her gentle touch
Makes everything all right.
She sacrifices of herself
To always put you first;
Loving unconditionally
Even when you're at your worst.
A mother's love is. all these things
And many, many more,
She's a mother, a friend and an angel
And someone I adore.
I cannot see the future
But there's one thing I'm sure of...
The woman that I am today
Is thanks to mother's love.
My children will be very blessed
If they grow up to see;
That I've been even half the mom
That mine has been to me.

A Point to Ponder
by Rev. Vernon Dean
Exeter Pentecostal Tabernacle
After 12 weeks, 201 pounds have been shed by the 26 who
participated in the "Weigh Down" program at Exeter Pen-
tecostal Tabernacle.
Many of those who were part of this first twelve week
session testified that the "Weigh Down" approach was rad-
ically different from other "diet programs" that they have been on.
"Weigh Down" was started in 1986 by Gwen Shamblin of Nashville,
Tennessee. After her book was published in 1997, the new approach
took off like a rocket.
There are now over 10,000 churches and other organizations spon-
soring this innovative approach. The ironic part of the program is
that while it is a "weight loss" program, it is really more about bring-
ing every area of a person's life into alignment and under discipline.
With chapter titles like, "It's Not Genetics or Your Mother's Fault",
"I Feel Hungry All the Time", and "How to Eat Potato Chips and
Chocolate", there is a strong spiritual emphasis that is credited with
the success of the program.
Here's what some of the participants report: "There is such f..;e-
dom in this program. 1 have lost 19 lbs and not felt deprived of any
food. I have learned to get into the Bible for the help I needed."
"I'm more conscious of the body's genuine hunger and full sig-
nals. I know that God wants to walk with me into wholeness in this
area of my life."
"I've lost 19 1/2 pounds and I'm not on a diet! God has helped me
to be obedient to the needs of my body and not to go by my head
hunger. After just a few days of being on the 'Weigh Down' pro-
gram, I noticed how much easier it was to tie up my shoes. I'll never
go on a diet again!"
Exeter Pentecostal Tabernacle started their next 12 week session
on Monday, May 4 with 22 signing up. Another twelve week ses-
sion is scheduled to begin in the later part of the summer.
