Flowers of Hope campaign underway
Volunteers will be canvassing during May

Huron, volunteers will bring mar-
igolds to your door as they -canvass
the area from Seaforth to -Osborne
and Grand Bend in the annual
Flowers of Hope campaign for
Community Living. •
For the first time in several years..
all municipalities in the region are
covered. by 250 volunteer can-
vasser: with the goal of raising
$18.500.
Donors receive marigold seeds,
the official (lower of hope. 'Vol-
unteers started canvassing May 1
and will wrap up the campaign by
the end of the month.

Bruce Shaw explained the' c,un-
paign is critical to the lives of the
clients. All funds raised . through
the Flowers of Hope campaign go
to clients to improve their well-
being _and quality of life. None of
the money goes to administration.
Shaw said' the clients receive
$700-935 per month from the gov-
ernment- but may still have dif-
ficulty making ends Meet. -
"When the clients need items not
covered by OHIP,, they are left to_
their own resources." he said. . -
This can include medical ex-
penses or .equipment. A wheelchair
can cost up to $5;0(X). Although the
government provides a partial
. grant, the client is responsible for
part of the cost.
.. Community Living - South Hu-
ron has been providing support to
clients with developmental chal-
lenges since 1968.. The •agency is
operated by •a volunteer hoard of
directors of community • repre-
sentatives. "

SHIPKA - The annual meeting
of Shipka Community Centre was
held April 22. Euchre games will
remain Tuesday nights next year.
Bob Finkheincr and Don Baker
repaired the roof.
A pork barbecue will he held
July 49.
Due to apoor attendance, they
were .unable to elect a new execu-
tive. President John Muller, Vice
president Bill Finkbeincr, Treasurer
.Shcona Baker and Secretary
Dianne Finkbciner will remain for
another year.

month to Thelma Beierling; and
happy 41st wedding anniversary

Sebowing, Michigan-, visiting with
relatives. They •also'attended the
funeral service ,for their late cousin
Velma (Wurm) Mill, held at New
Salem Lutheran Church,' Sebowing.
Don and Elizabeth Adams, and
Hugh and Annie Morcnz from this
area attended the baptism of thew
great -great nephew. Ryan William
Leslie, son of Ruth (Martin) and
Craig Marshall. of Toronto at
Crediton Community Church on
April 26. Following the baptism,
about 40 relatives and friends were
guests of the family at a luncheon
at Crediton Community Centre.
Guests came from Toronto,
.Brantford, Chatham, Hensall,
Exeter, Crediton, London and
Shipka.
Ken and Marg Baker Visited
recently with Elizabeth .Coghlin
and girls Tiffany and Tatyana at
Atwood.
Dashwood Seniors organize bus trip
DASHWQOD - At 12 noon, on April 20,'the Dashwood Seniors met at
the Community Hall for a potluck dinner.
President- Velma Russell opened the meeting with the singing of
O'Canada and reciting the Lord's Prayer. Roll call indicated 31 members
and one vi.,itor, with three birthdays this month. r
The group discussed -taking a McNaughton Tours bus trip to sec the pro-
duction of Anne orGreen Gables at Jackson'.s'Point, leaving Dashwood all
on June 26 .at 8:30 a.rn. Members of the group attended the 23rd 2onc 8
Spring Rally at Holmesvifc on April 21. " -
Senior games will.be played at Mitchell June 15 and 16. with a number

attending.
Evelyn Pickering and Velma Russell read some stories. The program
closed with a number of prizes given out.
The next meeting will he May 18 at 6 p.m. All seniors invited to attend.

Middlesex volunteers honored
ILDERTON - The Helping Oth-
ers Maintain Middlesex Elders
(HOMME) program of the VON
recognized its volunteers at an ap-
preciation day in Ilderton last
week.
The volunteers are part of a
county -wide endeavor that serves
seniors and disabled adults. The
mission is to enable people who
choose to do so, remain in=
dependent in their own homes with
support from community services
such as transportation, meals on
wheels, telephone security, well-
ness clinics; visiting and dining
programs.
