Auction proceeds go to school <playground equipment

ZURICH = Over 100 items were
auctioned off at the Time; Talent
and Auction held on Sunday in
Zurich. All proceeds will- go to St.
Boniface School for new play-
ground equipment.
The Women's Institute will meet
on May 4 at Erb's Country Kitchen
at 11:30 a.m. for Iuruh.
A short- meeting will be held
afterwards at the home of president
Bridget Groot. followed by a drive
to the Baylield area to tour the
nursery at Tc -fico Farms. •Anyone.
wanting to join the group are to

possible..
The next Auxiliary meeting will
he held on May.. at the Blue Water.

Tlie Christian Reformed Church Singers visited the Home the evening
of April 21 tti entertain the resident!: with gospel hymns. Chair Peter
Visscher. pianist(Susan Verhoog and poem -reader Ana Zandhergen led in

Wednesday the residents enjoyed afternoon tea. games in the early
evening anLl a visit from their four legged friend Midnight.
Rev. Gani Lazard. Pashwood/Zurich Uniteld Church. conducted
Thursday afternoon chapel service. Fr. Matthias Wronski, St. Boniface
Church. Zurich celebrated Mass.

dents. .•
In the -morning. in celebration of Earth Day the resident transplanted
seedlings for the greenhouse. •

Gingcrich. Dorothy Dietrich and Florence Brown captured soil beneath the
fingernails as they transferred the. delicate seedlings from their close con-
fines into larger containers to grow in time to be planted in the flower beds
throughout the Home's bedding plots.
Jack and Irene Vinccn( entertained the residents on Satursday afternoon
in the auditorium.
Sunday was a special day for resident Vcra O'Brien as family members.
friends and residents gathered in the auditorium to celebrate 96 years
young.
Vera's children. grandchildren and great-grandchildren attended the
event. Sisters from St. Thomas and Wallaceburg enjoyed mingling with
about 6(1 guests and dining on cake and ice cream,.
Auxiliary volunteers Lottie Grenicr. Mary (Calvin) Gingcrich and Grace •
.Martin served the many guests.
Flowers. cards. gifts and balloons were shared with Vera. and 10 family
members remained after the open house to have an evening meal with her
at the home. •
Vcra. the third oldest resident of the home, follows in the footsteps of
Juliette Denomme who celebrated:her 96th birthday on April 3, and
" Margaret Hess who celebrated her 96th birthday on September 24. 1997.
Raptor visit
Ross Snyder of Tamarack, the Raptor Rehabilitation Foun-
dation visited McGillivray Central School. last week with One
of his non-releaseable raptors to explain his work to the
students. The foundation was founded in 1985 to rehabili-
tate injured birds of prey and to provide public education.
He explained the special diets required by the birds, the
housing facilities which they have available and the way
they are released Into the wild.
