About 1,300 stu- dents from throughout Mid- dlesex County performed at the community centre from April 20-23. "It's like a mini - Olympics for them," Thames Valley District School Board physical/health consultant and event organizer Ray Hughes, said. The gymnasts . were individually judged by vol- unteers and were awarded gold, silver or' bronze par ticipatikn'awards rather than competing against their peers. Huron Hurricanes busy in April . .VANASTRA The Huron hurricanes Aquatic Club have been busier than usual this month. This is the beginning.Iong course sea- son., which means that the length of the pool changes from 25 metres tb 50 metres. Long course is what the Olympics arc. The first meets of the year had someswimmers go to the Grinter 'Walton meet in Brantford, while - others attended the Wilmot Aces Aquatic Club meet. Those who attended the Grinter Walton meet were Leslie Burton, Andrea Vanderloo. Kristy Cameron and Mike Durst. Cameron placed first in the 50 butterfly., the 100 , freestyle. the 200 breaststroke. and the 100 b'utterfl.y. She placed sec- mid in the '50 breaststroke. the 50 freestyle and seventh in the 200 backstroke. Durst placed fourth in the 50 fly, fifth in the 50 back and the '100 breast, and eighth in 'the 100 butterfly. Burton placed sev- enth in the 5d fly. • M the Wilmot Aces meet, Amber Wisser placed seventh in the 50 freestyle. Susan Miner placed fifth, in the 100 breaststroke, sixth in thc 100 butterfly. and scv- cnth in thc 100 frestyle. Aaron Datars came. in fifth in the .I00 backstroke, and seventh in the 50 freestyle. Scott McNicholl won bronze in the 100 breaststroke. • Then the team was off to partici- pate in Division Th'rci Team Championships in ttohicoke. Brittany Segcren won the High Points Trophy for thc top female swimmer in the 11 and 12 age group. She placed first in the 100 breaststroke. the 100 butterfly, and the 200 breaststroke. She won sil'- vier in the 400 metre ,Individual Medley and in the 200 metre I.M. Camelon won gold in the 400 I.M., the 200 I.M. and the 400 freestyle.. She won silver in the 50 freestyle, and she placed sixth in the 100 backstroke. Durst placed fourth in, the 100 breaststroke, the 200 I.M. and sixth in the 200 breaststroke. Burton placerk fifth in the 200 butterfly and seventh in the 100 metre butterfly. The boys 10 and under free relay and girls 13-14 medley relay both. placed fourth.
