Earth Day celebration
It's our earth! Students at Usborne Central School celebrated Earth Day last Wednesday with an assembly and planted
two trees at their school yard. The school's environmental club and students stand around the newly -planted bur oak.
Windy Ridge Farms, Treemendous and the Ausable-Bayfield Conservation Authority co-sponsored the event.
Playhouse Guild donates $7,500 to CD project
GRAND BEND - The • Huron
Country Playhouse Guild • has
matched a provincial grant that will
make a. new promotional cornpact
.disc project a reality.

McKay said.
The CD; the idea of HCP general
manager Simon Day,. will be used

government and corporate sponsors
in providing financial support for
the work that the playhouse docs.
"In'this way. the Guild's gift will
d. provide the seed, money that will
he' the Playhouse prosper along
its path to self-suff;icicncy. In this
way the Guild's gift will contint;e to
grow. And with the enormous care
and nurturing they provide, that just
might he what Huron Country Play-
house will do as well," McKay add-
ed.
When Huron Country Playhouse
originated in 1972, housed in a tent,
the "friends•" of the Playhouse were
called upon to assist in every im-
aginable way; and it was decided
' that a permanent organization was
needed to support and promote the
Playhouse. The Founders Meeting
was held on September 23, 1972
with 53 women present, and the Hu-
ron Country Playhouse Guild was
formed.
,The Guild has now grown to 149
members and their tireless work

on May.3 after the ehurch service. for the purpose of calling a minister.

The •Christian Development Committee of London Conference is host-
ing a "Living Our Faith" event at Exeter United Church on April 29 from
6:30 to 9:30 p.ln. The cost will he $5 'per person. For more information
contact London -Conference office. 672=1930.
London Conference billets are needed from May 22 to 24.
Remember to bring an item for- the.food hank to the next Sunday service

Over the years the Guild has pro-
vided theatre scats for the main au-
ditorium, stage draperies (including
the beautiful new red curtain), the
wireless microphone system. hear-
ing. assistance to aid the hard of
hearing patrons, innumerable con-
tributions to the rebuilding cam-
paign and many other gifts:
Gloria Day, the .excutive pro-
ducer, . submitted the • successful
grant application to the Ministry of
.Citizenship, Culture and. Rec-
reation. Hamilton's Theatre. Apar-,
ius, is also a partner in the project.

Lucan woman
in Cancer Ride
for 23 years

ILDERTON - Lucan's Pat
Hodgins took part in the Great Ride
for Cancer in llderton on Sunday.
Thanks to her many sponsors, she
raised $1,450 for the Canadian
Cancer Society.
Hodgins has been participating
in this event for 23 consecutive
years starting in 1976.
She rode for seven years in
Lucan, until 1983, when Lucan dis-
continued the ride,
She rode 11 years with Strathroy,
two years with Parkhill/Ailsa Craig
and the past three years with
llderton, raising a total of close to
$16,000.
