CENTRALIA - April 19 was cel-
ebrated as the second Sunday of
Easter at Centralia United Church.
There were Easter lilies.in the sanc-
tuary from Jean Palmer and other
congregation members in memory
of family members.
The congregation welcomed
Brad Skinner as a member upon
transfer of his membership.
Minister Heather Scott was assisted
by Sam Skinner, Clerk of the
Session, in performing the official
transfer.
The• Stewards thanked everyone
for their support of the pork supper.
There was a good turnout.
Minister Scott's sermon was
entitled What About This?'
Upcoming events
The women of the U.C.W. will
visit Ice Culture in Hensall for their
May meeting. On May 7, everyone
should meet at the church at 7:30
p.m. to car pool to Hensall.
The U.C.W. is happy with the
contributions to the 'Imaginary
Bazaar'. If anyone has not received
a receipt for their donation, call
Madalene Tasko at 228-6262.
On April 23, a New Christian
Education Resources Workshop
will be held at Westminster College
from 7 to 10 p.m. The speaker will
be Gordon Timbers.
Zion West United Church invites
everyone to a pancake breakfast on
April 25. Breakfast will be served
from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $5
for adults and $2.50 for children
aged preschool to 11. There are
tickets at the door.
The Piecemaker Quilt Show,
sponsored by the Stonetown
Quitter's Guild, will be held in St.
Marys. Show times are April 23, 24
and 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Admission is $3.
On April 26, the Exeter
Community Choir will perform at
2:30 p.m. at Trivitt Anglican
Church in Exeter. There will be a
free will offering which will be
donated to the cross -Canada walk
recently begun in Newfoundland by
John Davidson as a tribute to his
son Jesse.
The Exeter Christian Reformed
Church invites youth to a special
youth service beginning at 7 p.m.
on April 26.
Centralia Faith Tabernacle
On April 25, all youth are invited!
to a youth rally with services at 2.'
and 6 p.m. A special guest speaker
and praise and worship band will
minister to the youth. A meal will
be served at approximately 4:30
p.m.
Euchre results
Wilmer Scott was winner of the
hidden score in euchre at
Heywoods Restaurant recently.
High Hand winners were Marian
and Percy Noels. Mary Rhame and
Gord Eaton were the Lone Hand
winners.
St. Boniface prepares for time and talent auction

Zurich correspondent
ZURICH - The Seaforth
Harmony- Kings Barbershop group
competed in Toronto over the
weekend against 16 other chapters
in the province. There were a total
of 26 singers. The Harmony Kings
came in tenth place' which enables
them to compete i'n the October
competition at the Constellation
Hotel, Toronto.
The St. Boniface C.W.L. meet-
ing was held on Tuesday following
Mass for vocation under•the direc-
tion of new president Coby
Vandenboomen and -her executive.
A film called the Tangled Web
was shown.
A Time, Talent and Treasure
Auction will be held this Sunday at
the Zurich Community Centre.
Doors will open at 12:30 p.m. for
viewing over 100 articles and the
bidding begins at 1:30 p.m.
The proceeds will go to St.
Boniface School -for new play-
ground equipment.
An end -of -the -season volleyball
banquet was held at the Zurich
Arena on Saturday night.
On Sunday the Minor Athletic
Association held an awards night
.for the hockey teams and their fam-
ilies.
There will be a "Women and
Heart Health" symposium at the
Mennonite Church tonight,
Wednesday, from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
Dr. Heather Percival will open the
program followed by a panel dis-
cussion on heart disease and
strokes. Admission at the door is
$2. You can register by calling
273-5212.
The next meeting of the Ladies
Auxiliary will be at the Blue Water
Rest Home on May 5 at 7 p.m. The
group will prepare for the Mother's
Day Tea and Bazaar on May 9
from 2 to 4 p.m. There will be
draws, crafts and the residents will
have some of the homemade good-
ies for sale. Anyone wanting to
bring a canned good for the grocery
hamper draw can still do so.
The Zurich Public School pupils
will be presenting "Duck Tails and
Bobby Sox" in their gym on May 6
and 7. Tickets cost $2 for adults
and those 14 and over, and are
available at the school or by phon-
ing 236-4942.
The next Golden Agers card
party will be held at the town hall
on April 27 at 7:30 p.m. The cost is
$2 at the door.
The -1st Zurich and Bayfield
Cubs hold their meetings at the
public school every Tuesday
evening. On March 31 they started
to prepare for District camp. The
theme is 'Space' so the boys are
making space ship and alien crafts
and painting large murals of the
moon and Mars with space ships.
On April 7 the boys worked on
their fishing badge.
On April 14 they spent the
evening doing community service
by picking up litter around the
park.
The local plowing match com-
mittee for 1999 will be setting up a
booth at the Exeter Home and
Garden Show.
The Zurich Brownies and Guides
have their meetings every Tuesday
night at the Mennonite Church. On
March 31 they made button
bracelets and made Easter crafts.
On April 7 they went to visit Tim
Horton's doughnut shop in Exeter.
On April 14 they held their annu-
al Cookie Blitz night. If anyone
wants to buy Girl Guide Cookies at
$3 per box, phone Ruth, 236-4712
or Nicole at 236-7631.
On April 21 the girls participated
in Earth Day activities.
Several people from the area
went to the Home and Garden
Show in London over the weekend.
Personals
Family and friends helped
Archie and Madge Masse celebrate
their 50th anniversary on Saturday
at the Dominion Tavern which was
beautifully decorated for the occa-
sion.
Curtis and Mary Gingerich, and
Hubert and Marge Schilbe have all
returned from their winter in
Florida. Earl and Doreen Oesch
have also returned from Florida.
They also visited with daughter
Wendy and family in California.
Happy birthday wishes go to
Nicole Beauchamp who was 21
years old on April 11; and to Marge
Gingerich on April 29.
Sympathy of the community
goes to the family of the late
Howard (Mac) Klopp who passed
away on April 15.
Joe and Nancy Becker and fami-
ly of Dashwood recently went to
Florida and Disney World.
Blue Water residents enjoy Easter cantata
ZURICH - The residents of Blue
Water Rest Home were entertained
by members of Thames Road and
Elimville United Church U.C.W.
on April 6 for their April Birthday
Party celebration. Sharon Lynn was
chair for the evening; Vanessa Bray
played "My Heart Will Go On"
from the movie Titanic; Kristy
Bray played "Annie's Song" on the
piano; Jessica Bray read.a poem;
Megan Parker, Maggie and Sarah
Miller, Jennifer Veal were mem-
bers of the Carry On Cloggers. The
residents joined in for a sing a long,
which included a Happy Birthday
song for residents Kurt Gebel,
Juliette Denomme, Roy Gingerich,
Ruby Bell, Beatrice McNab,
Herbert Schlundt, Vera O'Brien
and Mary Romaniszyn who cele-
brate their birthdays in April.
In the afternoon the residents
watched the movie "Yosemite
Park" in California, produced by
Reader's Digest. April 13 they
yiewed "Grisley Mountain", a
video about bears.Tuesday evening
the Auxiliary entertained the resi-
dents with Mary Lou Denomme as
Chair, and assisted by Irene
Clausius, Ilene Potthoff and Marie
Gelinas. Marcel Gelinas played
several piano solos, Monique and
Stephanie Gelinas as piano soloists
and singing duets, Irene read a
poem entitled "How to Find His
Blessed Assurance.". Monique and
Stephanie are grandchildren of
Auxiliary members Marie Gelinas
and Mary Lou Denomme. Lunch
was served by Cecelia Farwell,
Joyce Brisson, Theresa Stark and
Marie Denomme. Wednesday after-
noon the residents gathered in the
auditorium to color hard boiled
eggs, a long standing Canadian tra-
dition during the Easter season.
Everyone enjoyed dining on their
work of art at supper time.

Goshen/Varna United Church con-
ducted Thursday afternoon Chapel
Service on April 9; Rev. Cheri
DiNovo, Brucefield United Church
conducted the service April 16. Fr.
Matthias Wronski, St. Boniface
Church, Zurich celebrated Mass.
Rev. DiNovo has accepted a call to
a parish in Toronto near Hyde Park
and her family and bid farewell to
her friends she met at Blue Water.
Rev. Gani Lazaro,
Dashwood/Zurich United Church
led bible study on April 14.
An Easter Cantata called "Alive"
was performed by members of
Zurich Mennonite Church on April
9. Narration was done by Pastor
Reynold Kipfer, pianist was Cathy
Shantz, Kevin Steckle on guitar and
,Becky Gingerich on trumpet.
Dorothy Dietrich was Director for
the evening performance.
Geri Fashions, London visited
the home on April 14 with their
wide selection of clothing for
seniors. The residents and members
of the community perused the
clothing line and purchased items
to fit their wardrobe requirements.
By day end everyone felt they had
found their special something.
April 15 residents Clara Hamilton,
Dorothy Dietrich, Margaret Hess,
Neil Mustard, Mabel Kyle,
Florence Brown, Philippa Steckle,
Elda Wagner, Harry Maas and
Marie Gingerich, along with Cathy
Shantz Adjuvant and volunteer dri-
ver Don Stevens headed out into
the country with the wheelchair
bus.
Max Ducharme and The
Townliners filled the auditorium
with music to dance to on April 16.
Max on violin, George Mathonia
on accordion, Barry Saunders on
electric guitar and Carol Taylor as
pianist had the residents swaying in
their seats, tapping their toes and
up on the dance floor dancing to
the beat. April 17 was National
Siblings Day and the residents rem-
inisced in the morning over happy
times. In the afternoon Art Coker
played modern songs on the organ
in the chapel to cheer everyone.
Bryan Geoffrey of Redford,
Michigan, son of resident Beatrice
Geoffrey, played his 12 and six
string guitar and auto harp on
Saturday afternoon in the auditori-
um for the residents. Sunday after-
noon the Habouraires of Goderich
entertained the residents. A wide
.selection of solos, duets, quartets
and the choral presentation of Let
Me Entertain You, The Water Is
Wide and My Heart is Filled was
sung by the choir. The group
planned a trip to Buffalo in the near
future and have plans to entertain
the Goderich community as well.

April 22, Earth Day April 24, Jack
and Irene Vincent singing April 25,
Exeter Community Church April
27, and their Buddies on April 28.
