New '.club president- is Katherine Weber. vice president is Fran Roelands, secretary is Judy Steeper; and treasurer is Mary Verner. The new executive have been busy planning a full calendar of events. Scheduled are one and two day workshops. taught by loyally. renow n artists. W .rkshoiis are .usually held on Saturdays and run from 10 a.m. to 3 or 4 p.m. Field trips to local art galleries and museums and on site 'painting in nature' excursions are also planned. The club is an informal group with varying degrees of talent and skills. Anyone interested in art is welcomed, any medium and any level, from beginner to advanced. The club- meets every first and third Thursday of •the month,. in the art room (107), at the South Huron District High.S&'•oo1. Several from the Granton area attended the history hook meeting at the Biddulph township office on Monday eve- ning April 13th. A number of women from this arca enjoyed the annual Kirkton UCW Spring. Luncheon Buffet and Fashion Show at the community centre on Wednesday, April 15th. The Lenten luncheon and service which was cancelled in March was held at the Lucan Community Cen- tre on April 15 hosted by St. Pat- rick's CWL. Reb. -Phomas Blondin led the meditation about reflections on the Resurrection. A large crowd attended the annu- al Lucan United Church hecf sup- per at the community centre on Thursday, April 16th. At the Granton United Church on Sunday. Dave Williams of Kirkton took charge of the service. The ser- mon was entitled 'Hc makes a dif- ference' based on- lessons from Acts 5, Revelation 1 and John 20. In keeping with Earth Day the choir sang 'Touch the Earth'. There was no service at St. Paul's, Kirkton on April 19 but Kitchen renovations in the works at GB United GRAND BEND - It was a packed church with chairs. in the aisle on Easter Sunday at Grand Bend United. Niore than 30 Easter lilies were banked in front of the altar in memory of loved ones. Special music was by' Laurie and Amanda Candella of Stoney' Creek. as they. sang solos. They are the daughter and granddaughter of Norm .and Bette Tufts. Rev. R. Putman talked to the children about the. sym- bols of resurrection; the shroud, a bowl of sweet fra- grance, a stone, bread, wine and a cross, which were carried in by the children and laid at the front. A number of younger children sang "Climbing Jacob's Ladder" accompanied by'Irene Kennedy at the piano. Scriptures were read by Sherwood Eddy. The choir anthem was "He is Risen." - • The introit was arranged and played by Norm Abbott. Resurrection stories was the theme at Grand Bend United Church on April 19. 1. Rev. R. Putman's story to the children, he told them about a boy' who was frightened on an airplane until he was shown a pilot was in -charge. To the congregation. Rev. Putman said many people are doubters. until they realize Jesus is always with them. Scriptures were read by Connie Russell. The choir's anthem was "Because He Lives." In the absence of organist Norm Abbott, Lynn Tremain played the piano for hymn singing. Prayers of and for'thc people was given by Bob Southcott. The flowers in the sanctuary were in memory of Eva Fahner, placed by her family. Twenty-one United Church Women met Thursday afternoon, April 8 at the church. President Evelyn .Johnson. home after a month's holiday in B.C., opened with a reading entitled "Rejoice." Laura Flcwelling and Vera Rempel gave meditation talks on Easter. Hymns of Easter were sung accompanied by Irene Kennedy at the piano. Jean Cassidy read some Free Press items on racial discrimination. When Cassidy and her family lived in Montreal, they were on the.same street as Jackie Robinson, the young colored -ball player who became so famous. He was not allowed to play on a Canadian team because of the color of his skin. He was accepted by an- American team and went to the top, opening the way for colored athletes. The roll call was answered by naming a new church official Plans were discussed for the Celebration of Soup luncheon on April 18 at the church, with proceeds going to the Canadian Food Grains Bank. A birthday party is planned for Blue Water Rest Home on May 11 at 6:45 p.m. Upcoming events are: Huron Perth Presbytery meet- ing on April 20 atNorth Street United Church in Goderich; and the 36th annual London Conference of United Church Women on April 27 and 28 at Dundas United Church in Woodstock. Kitchen renovations at the church were planned. "Happy birthday" was sung for Laura Flewclling, and 55th wedding anniversary wishes were given to Hazel Broad and husband Roy. Flcwelling led in a closing prayer. Lunch was served by Marg Love and Norma Waiper. The hi -weekly euchre game was held April 8 for Grand Bend Golden Agers at Uie Legion Hall. Winners were: ladies high - Jackie Leroux; Ladies low - Jean Dann; ladies lone hands - Ada Dietrich; Mens high - Cleve Brophy; Mcns low - Claude Leroux: Mens lone hands - Jini Love. The next euchre will he held April 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the Legion. Marilyn Humphrey welcomed eve- ryone and gave the meditation 'Why should I value life' assisted by Betty Dann and Norah Wissel. Humphrey closed with a poem about 'Hugs'. The president Audrey Westinan • led the business discussion. An- nouncements were made of the Westminister Weekend May 29-31. the London Conference annual meeting April 27 and 28, the Re- gional Rally on April 21 with the theme Uprooted People. Theannu al bazaar is scheduled for October 24, the beef supper at the park on June 17, and the Vacation Bible School the last week in July. Each of the units reported their activities and the president closed the meet- ing with prayer. Changes to collection in the Township of Hay Effective April 27, 1998 changes will occur to collection in the Township of Hay. CLASS ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT EXPANSION OF SEWAGE TREATMENT WORKS NOTICE OF COMPLETION OF ENVIRONMENTAL STUDY REPORT The existing Town of Exeter sewage treatment facilities are hydraulically and organically overloaded. To address this, and to accommodate future development, the town is proposing a project which will increase capacity and provide an upgraded level of treatment. The project involves the expansion of the lagoons onto Lot 25, Conc. 2, Twp. of Stephen, which is immediately north of the existing facilities; the deepening of existing Cells 1 and 2, the addition of Intermittent Slow Sand Filters; improvements to the phosphorus removal system and the upgrading of pumps at the main sewage pumping station. The town has planned the project under Schedule C of the Class Environmental Assessment for Municipal Water and Wastewater Protect (1993). An Environmental Study Report has been completed and by this Notice is being placed in the public record for review. Subject to comments received as a result of this Notice and the receipt of necessary approvals and financing, the Town intends to proceed with the construction of the works. The estimated cost is approximately $6,450,000. The Town has requested provincial funding assistance and intends to finance their share through increased sewage user rates and development contributions and charges. If there is no "bump -up" request by May 22, 1998, the expansion of the sewage treatment works may proceed to construction as outlined in the Environmental Study Report.
