Jr. D Hawks sink feisty Lakers squad in seven.

PORT STANLEY — The Exeter
Jr. D Hawks arc headed to the all -
Ontario finals' after outlasting the
regular season champs, the Port
Stanley Lakers, in a tough best of
seven series that went thc distance.
•Exeter.beat the Lakers 4-1 at Port
Stanley on Sunday afternoon. The
Lakers drew first blood by scoring
at 9:43 of the first period. though
Exeter's Dave Farquhar evened
things at 8:17 with assists going to
Bill Hodge and Ryan Chaniney.
The Hawks played a splendid
second period with solid play in
both ends. Port threatened to take
the lead when Jason Begley was
awarded a penalty shot after Exeter
goaltender Andy Glavin threw his
stick along the ice at Begley when
a faulty pad strap caused shim to fall
down and lose his mask while go-
ing out to challenge Bcglcy and cut
down the angle.•

Exeter took the Icad it wouldn't
relinquish at 13:33 of the second af-
ter Scan McCann took advantage of
a Lakers defensive error in the neu-
tral zone, got behind the Lakers de-
fender and slipped a pass to. a

Jeff. Glavin scored Exeter's third
goal at 6:10 of the second while the
Hawks were shorthanded. Glavin

when he converted a pass from Jeff

Hawks G.M./coach Dave Reving-
ton said the Lakers are an "ex-
treme!) skilled" team that counted
on making the provincial final after
a stellar regular
season.
"We kind of got

said. "We were pretty much the un-
derdog in each series and it -has •
been pretty inspiring to watch them
mature as hockey players."
Revington said his . team .s suc
cess in the playoffs has been be-
cause of an entire team effort, add-
ing different players have stepped
up their games when it was needed:
"There isn't a guy in the lineup
that hasn't contributed on any giv-
en night," he said.
Reviugton gave special recogni-
tion to Andy Glavin for his some:
times spectacular play between the -
pipes.
"If we had to pick one guy;" he
said, "Andy Glavin is the guy.evc-
ryonc-else has rallied around."

Special teams played a big role in
Exeter's ' 4-3 win on Friday. Ben
McCann. tied it up at 1-1 with 1:41
left in the first while Exeter was on
the powerplay; Greg Goodwin.
Erik Abayof notched the assists.
The Hawks went up 2-1 on an
even strength goal by Dan Taylor at
8:36 of the first, assists going to
Jeff•Glover and Farquhar.
Exeter made it 3-1 at 2:38 of the
first while on• the powerplay. Jeff
Campbell scored with- assists going
to Abayof and Chamney. Campbell
scored what proved to he the win -

EXETER — The Exeter Atom
AE Nabs arc the pride of their
hometown by winning the Ontario
Minor Hockey Association cham-
pionship on Friday.
The boys defeated Ennismore 5- .
2 on the road to sweep the series
in three games.
The tearliwas given the tradi-
tional honor of touring the town
Saturday afternoon on a fire truck
with sirens blazing.
The Nabs were given special
recognition during Saturday's Ex-
eter Jr. D Hawks Yeck Conference
final series game at the Rec Cen-
tre. Each player -was introduced
while they skated onto the ice,
then the entire team skated a vic-
tory lap.
Jordan Darling and Adam Johns
scored two goals each in the final
game with Scott Loosely notching
the other marker. Brent Hackett
got assists on three of the goals
with other helpers going to Mi-
chael Cooper, Luke Kerslake,
Mark Scip, Chad Taylor and
Loosely.

Game four at Eketer
Exeter lost, 4-2 on March 31. Ex-
eter was up 2-0 early in 'the second,
but, the Lakers scored two goals
only 32 seconds apart in the fourth
minute of =the' period and scored
two more in the third while keeping
Exeter off the scoresheet.

Lasers bring OMHA title home
Celebration time. The Lucan Novice Lasers swept Cayuga in their Ontario Minor Hockey As-
sociation championship series three games to none capped off with a 5.4 win in Cayuga on
Friday. Here the boys are seen on the fire truck on their tour of the village.
LUCAN — The Lucan Novice Lasers hockey
team capped a phenomenal season by besting Ca-
yuga in their Ontario Minor Hockey Association
championship series in three straight games.
The Lasers won the clinching game three in Ca-
yuga,5-4 on Friday.
The Lasers took an early lead when Logan Cou-
ture scored 43 seconds into the game with assists
by Bailey VanPract and Lance Lefebvre.
Nick Engel scored Lucan's second goal near thc
end of the first period with Jeff Latta and Chad Li -
ley assisting.
Michael Noyes scored Lucan's last three goals
for a natural hat -trick including the winner after
Cayuga made a game of it by scoring two un-
answered goals to tic things up 4-4.
Other assists went to Couture. Liley and Dylan
Pryce.
The Cayuga Stars showed they were a class act
by making an arch with their sticks which the La-
ser players skated under when they left the ice as
Western Novice D -DD all -Ontario champions.
The Lasers ended the year with a 63-4-2 record
which saw them win the Parkhill Regional Silver -
stick, the International Silverstick, the OMHA title
and the Brussels and New Hamburg tournaments.
The team gave special mention to their 'number
one fan' Theo Sentjens who attended all their
home games.
The Lasers were given the royal treatment when
they returned home on Saturday afternoon with
the traditional fire truck ride through the village.
Shaping up. The Bluewater Tug of War club are preparing for a full season of competition in-
cluding The World International Federation (TWIF) World Championships at Rochester, Minn.,
