Lakers in -their own barn 3-2 io take
a -2-1 series lead. Port struck first
with 5:49 played in the- first. •but
Exeter tied it less than two minutes
later on a goal by Jet:f:Glavin from
Sean McCann and Jeff Finkheiner.

2:04 remaining in the period when
`Jason Grenicr convened a . pass
from McCann: .

game winner at 18:02 of the second

and captain Bill Hodge.
Pon made it interesting by scor-
ing 7:46 into the last stanza but
failed to. put one behind Exeter
goaltender Andy Glavin during the
ensuing scrambles in front of his
net over the last few minutes. The
Lakers also didn't score during a
four minute man advantage that
started at the beginning of the pe-
riod.
Exeter's Jeff Campbell was
slashed on the side of the knee dur-
ing the first period, had to be
helped off the ice by two team-
mates at the end of the period and
did not -play the rest of the game.
Hawks trainer Mike Soldan said
Campbell first injured the knee dur-
ing Saturday's game in Exeter after.
another Laker slash to the- same
knee. Soldan said there was just too
much bruising to risk playing

A bonus for the Exeter_ players
was the strong contingent .of fans
from home. a loud" and boisterous
bunch that often drowned out the
Laker fans.
"We've had great .fan support all
along." Revington-said. •
Strong team defence was the key
to both Sunday's win and Exeter's
3-1 win at home on Saturday, he
said.
"if we get into a shootout with
Pon Stanley were not going to
Revington said. "They've got
fiX-e or six guys who can score
goals."
Playing. well without the puck
also creates scoring opportunities
when the opposition makes mis-
takes. Exeter players proved that
basic hockey theory by taking off
on several breakaways and two -on -
ones during game three.
The Hawks started the series off
on the wrong. foot with a 6-3 loss in
Port.
Though they were penalized only
four' times. the Lakers scored three
powerplay goals. A lack of of-
fensive punch also played a role in
the game- one loss for the Hawks.
Port did all the scoring in the first
and staved the .second with a 3-0
lead. It was 4-1 after the second.
and despite playing a spirited last
half of the second and first half of
the third, the Hawks couldn't gain
ground on the Lakers. • .

ham and Hodge . from Grenier and
Finkbeiner from Jeff Glavin
notched the third period markers:
Port outshot Exeter 12-1 1 in the
first, 18-8 in the second with the
teams getting six shots on goal a
piece in the third.
Revington said the tough series
versus Mitchell and going the dis-
tance with Seafonh took its toll on
the team, both physically and men-
tally. The goal. was to rest his
players before they headed back to
Exeter for game two.
. Game four was played yesterday
in Exeter after press. Game five is
set for Friday. 8 p.m., in Port Stan -
Icy; game six (if necessary) is back

tre on Saturday. at 8:30 p.m.; game

Sunday at 3 pm.
Despite taking a 2-1 series lead
back home, Revington said it isn't
time to look at possible all -Ontario
opponents in the final round.
"We're not looking any farther
than the first 20 minutes of Tues-
day night's game." he said.
