Celebration held in Dashwood
Winter returns
With the return of wintery
weather, the Grade 3 class
at McGillivray Central School
took to the drifts on their
snowshoes. Above, Kyle
Baltessen and Jessie
Nethercott take some time
out; while the student at
right finds out that snow -
shoeing is just a little tricki-
er than it appears at first.

DASHWOOD - A Targe and joy-
ful celebration was held Sunday for
• the hirthday of one of Dashwood's
long-standing residents. Frieda Kel-
ler achieved the line age of ninety,
and was thrilled to he surrounded
• by ,over two hundred guests - her
children, grandchildren. great-
grandchildren. relatives, friends
and neighbors. When the special
day began, Frieda was where she is
most every Sunday morning - in the
front pew at Zion Lutheran Church.
Her grandson, Vicar Jini Keller, de-
livered the sermon and included a
moving tribute to Mrs. Keller. Vic-
ar Keller stated, "Things have
changed in Dashwood in the nearly
thirty years that have passed since
lived here. But one thin.g hasn't. My
grandmother, who has touched so
many lives in her ninety years, is
still here ... This day I have just
one thing to say to her, and I think I
speak for everyone: God has
blessed- us through you. Thanks.
Grandma." An open house fol-
lowed, at which guests enjoyed
sumptuous fare. Mrs. Keller, dy-
namic, warns and young at heart!,
distributed hugs and handshakes
and posed for photographs. Special

Noted psychologist, author and conference speaker,
Dr. James Dobson; told a story years ago that was vid-
eo recorded and sold under the title, "A Father Looks
Back." Every year or so, I pull out the tape and watch it.
Here's the part that is so meaningful to me.
"My daughter came home a few years ago and said she had
obtained anew game called Monopoly and wanted us to play.
She obviously didn't know that it had been on the market for
many years prior to her birth. Anxious to show off my skills
at this game i gladly accepted the challenge. Here we were,
Shirley and I and our two children in the great game of Mon-
opoly. Almost immediately, I started winning. I purchased
Baltic Avenue, Park Avenue, Mediterranean and even.the util-
ities. Soon i had little green houses and as my family began
landing on my property and paying me, the little houses be-
came large red hotels. Ah - this was life at its best. My fami-
ly, however, did not share my enthusiasm. It wasn't very long
before they were all bankrupt and 1I owned it all. In disgust,
they left me to put the game away myself. I had money in my
pockets and under the game board. I sat for a few minutes
gloating in my success.
Finally, 1 began to put the money and houses and hotels
away. Suddenly, i became aware of that still small voice of
the Lord speaking to nay heart. 'Pay attention, Jim. There's a
lesson here for you.' As i pondered those words I realized that
life is much like a Monopoly gime.
There comes a time when it all goes back in the box. All the -
riches, all the property. the boat, the traitor; all the deeds,
everything - it all goes back in the box. As someone has no-
ticed, "There are no U -Hauls behind the hearses."
Jesus said that our most important task is to
love the Lord our God with all our heart, mind,
soul and strength and then to love our neigh -
hour as ourselves.
Heavy duty points to ponder, heh?

"MAKING SMART CHOICES"
The Ontario Government has promised -to deregulate the
electrical industry and give customers a choice of suppliers,
possibly by the year 2000.
The Exeter Public Utilities Commission customers are being
contacted by Energy Marketers requesting the right to act as
agents in the purchasing of electricity at specified prices. These
brokers may tell you that you may save a great•deal of money in
the future. You should know before signing a contract that these
claims are unsubstantiated. Be aware that these marketers are
not associated with our utility in any way and we want to caution
you, our valued customers, to fully understand any agreement
you maybe signing. `
The Exeter Public Utilities Commission will continue to be -your
supplier and deliverer of electricity and will keep you informed
concerning electricity supply to the year 2000 and beyond.
The Exeter Public Utilities Commission has joined
ENERconnect, a new buying co-operative made up of Ontario's
publicly owned, non-profit electric Utilities. ENERconnect will
assist your utility with power purchasing services in a
deregulated electricity market. This decision is expected to ,
ensure competitive electricity rates and a secure supply of power
for the residential and commercial customers served by the
Exeter Public Utilities Commission.
What this means for customers is access to the buying power of
utilities such as Ajax, Belleville, Brampton, Burlington, Dundas,
Exeter, Guelph. Goderich, Hamilton, Kingston, Kitchener -Wilmot,
North Perth (Listowel), Markham, Niagara Falls, Peterborough,
Seaforth, St. Marys, Stratford, St. Thomas, Windsor, West
Perth (Mitchell), Wingham and Zurich to name a few. It will
keep our Utility viable and competitive in a deregulated market..
Deferring your decision regarding your future electricity supplier
is the "smart choice" at this time or contact us to discuss
deregulation in the electricity market place.
