Capsule Comments
with Ernie Miatello
Interesting thought: A smoker's heart attack
costs him a lot more than a non-smoker's be-
cause smoking causes it to happen years earli-
er. So the victim hasn't earned as great a per-
centage of his lifetime earnings before the
attack reduced his earning capacity.
If you are in your early twenties and smoke, this might motivate
you to stop: Assuming it costs about $2,000 per year to buy cig-
arettes,
igarettes, if you stop now and invest that money yearly (at 1096), it
will grow to $1,085;231 in 42 years!
If you are prone to gout, here are some foods you should avoid
because they contain "purines": anchovies, beer, organ foods,
sardines, wine, yeast. Purines are chemicals that can change to
uric acid inthe body to produce gout symptoms.
If you have children with allergies, try covering their mattress with
impermeable vinyl. This will help reduce the levels of house dust
mite and cat dander which worsen the allergies.
