Tuesday -through Friday. 9 am. to 5 p.m. at 271-5271 Program will assist school boards in making transition QUEEN'S PARK - Bruce Smith, M.P.P. for Middlesex, welcomed the announcement made by the Minister of Education and Training. the Honourable David Johnson that the new district school board'. will benefit from a two year, $215 million transition program. The program is intended to assist the boards as they meet restructuring and start-up costs and increase their administrative efficiency. "With the establishment of new school hoards. there is an opportunity to examine the ways hoards provide services and to find new. more efficient methods of service delivery," staled Smith. The funding will ensure hoards can meet immediate restructuring costs. Funding will he used to achieve significant and permanent savings in school board administration. Use of innovative means for operating will benefit students by enabling boards to focus greater resources in the class- room. The transition program will give priority to funding proposals that feature co-operative activities among school boards and other public and private sector partners. ' The Education Improvement Commission has indicated that it is avail- able to provide advice to boards as they develop their'restructuring plans. "1 am confident that boards will respond positively to this initiative and work to ensure that savings realized from school board amalgamations can be used to benefit children in the classroom," added Smith.
