If the Zurich howlers roll the
best games of their young lives at
the provincials to take home that
title, they'll represent southern
Ontario at the Four Steps to Star-
dom national championship in the

an all -expense paid treat for the team including spif-
fy new. Ontario howling jerseys and coats, Dann
- said. -
"With just six lanes here (at Zurich Town and
Country compared with larger . in cities), I never
anticipated getting there again." Dann said of his
team making it to the provincial finals. Dann, a
howling -coach for 29 years, has howled himself at
the provincials and has coached
teams that havc competed at that
Level out of London lanes.
Dann said there havc hecn a
couple secrets to his team's suc-
•. cess this season. The first is their -
extra work on downing c.orner
pins. The second is turning a pos-
itive into a negative: Icss young howlers at Town

they made it so far? "Mainly because of our coach.
He's helped us a lot and we've practiced a lot."
Brent Ducharmc: "Bowling is fun because I do
really good."
Chris Regier: "It's fun because our coach teaches
us a lot and we practice." What's the most fun part
of howling? "Bowling thc halls because you could
get a strike or something."
And lastly (and most eloquently), Brian Ford: "I
. like bowling because it's a chal-
lenge to roll thc ball and hit the
target." The best pan? "When you
get strikes you get extra points on
your next two balls." How did
they make it to the provincials?
"We practiced and learned to hit
certain targets." The hardest part
so far? "When you get a head pin...then you have to
hit pins on both sides."

Jr. D Irish backs up against the wall vs. Seaforth
Lucan is down 3-1 to the Centennials in their division semi-final and face
elimination if they don't come up big tonight in front of the home crowd
By Craig Bradford
T -A Reporter
LUCAN The Lucan Jr. D
Irish will trade their hockey sticks
for golf clubs if they can't come
up with a win tonight.at home ver-
sus surging Scaforth in their Mo-
reno Division semi-final series.
The Irish lost • at home last
week 7-6 with a second left in the
first overtime frame.
Scaforth scored four straight
powerplay goals in the first and
second periods. including a nat-
ural hat -trick by Mark VanDoor-
en, while Lucan couldn't find the
finishing touch on even one of
their three man advantage op-
portunities.
Irish goals were scored by
Mike Robb (2). Mark Phillips.
Greg Henderson. Dan Hardick
and Ben Dohhic with assists going'
to Kevin Dunbar (2). Phillips.
Robb, Chad Greenlee. Daryl Bo-
shart, George Stephens (2) and
Mike Jaremchenko.
Irish co -coach Bill Bourne said
their special team performances.
or lack thereof. was the difference in the
game.
"Even strength we're not too bad." he said.
"Our special teams havc been our downfall all
year."
The Irish lost another close one 4-3 iri Sca-
forth on Friday. The Centennials took a 2-1
lead going into the second period and never
gave up the lead.
Special teams played a big role in the game
with Lucan scoring two on the powerplay and
giving one up while shorthanded and another
with the extra attacker.
Greenlee scored Lucan's first (on the pow-
erplay) and third goals with assists by Hardick

and Henderson respectively. Phillips scored
Lucan's middle goal on the powerplay with
assists going to Dunbar and Rohh.
Irish co -coach Jason Bukala said the team
will work on defence and special teams before
game five at Lucan Community Memorial
Centre tonight at 8!15 p.m.
"it's not that we're playing that poorly."
Bukala said. "We.•can't score or come up with
saves at key times. it's more like we've beaten
ourselves instead of them beating us."
In fact, Lucan has outshot Scaforth by 45
shots over their four games.
The lack of results after solid efforts
doesn't have Irish players hanging their heads.
"Our guys aren't down whatsoever," Bu -
kala said.
Expect a boost to the Irish attack tonight
with the addition of forward Jeremy Hudson to
the line-up. Jeremy has been out for a month
with a Charlie -horse and Bukala said he was
expecting Jeremy to grin and bare the pain for
what could be the team's last game of the sea-
son. Jeremy plays on a potent line with his
brother Gary and Dunbar which has not pro-
duced much while Jeremy has been out of the
line-up.
If Lucan wins tonight, game six will be at
Seaforth on Friday with game seven (if nec-
essary) at Lucan on Saturday at 8:30 p.m.
