Statistics show that nearly 300,000 Canadians arc stroke survi- vors: yet. this' is one of the only.. community-based initiatives that provides a forum where survivors. and caregivers learn to confront the long-range impact of this devastat- ing disease. _ According to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, nearly 80 per cent .of stroke survivors return to community living where dealing with new 'lifestyle restrictions be- comes a daily. challenge. Further. 87 per cent of stroke survivors re- port at least one lifestyle restriction everyday and 42 per cern of survi- vors. say they have difficulty with mobility. - The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario's Living with Stroke program was developed by a team of dedicated stroke experts includ- ing rehabilitation specialists, neu- rologists, stroke survivors and care- givers.
