Program to aid
stroke survivors
HURON 'COUNTY - in an effort
to better respond to the increasing
needs of stroke survivors and their
caregivers in. our community. the
Heart and Stroke Foundation of
Ontario has created stroke support
program called Living With Stroke.
Statistics show that nearly
300,000 Canadians arc stroke survi-
vors: yet. this' is one of the only..
community-based initiatives that
provides a forum where survivors.
and caregivers learn to confront the
long-range impact of this devastat-
ing disease. _
According to the Heart and
Stroke Foundation, nearly 80 per
cent .of stroke survivors return to
community living where dealing
with new 'lifestyle restrictions be-
comes a daily. challenge. Further.
87 per cent of stroke survivors re-
port at least one lifestyle restriction
everyday and 42 per cern of survi-
vors. say they have difficulty with
mobility. -
The Heart and Stroke Foundation
of Ontario's Living with Stroke
program was developed by a team
of dedicated stroke experts includ-
ing rehabilitation specialists, neu-
rologists, stroke survivors and care-
givers. For more information on
the. Living with Stroke program.
call the local Heart and Stroke
Foundation at 1-888-287-7775.
