Many fires caused by unclean or defective chimneys

Stephen Fire Chief Robert Perts-
chy warns people to look alter their,
Chimneys. He said too many fires
are • caused because people neglect
to clean the chimney. • .
Chimneys ,should he cleaned at
(east once." a year. he said. ex-
plaining this can -he done by either
the homeowner, u professional ma-
son or a certified chimney sweeper.
A common way to dean u chimney
is -by using u wire brush with a long
shaft to clean the chimney• from top
to bottom. Another way to clean
the shaft is with an anti-conlhustant
brick or metal,_ hall connected. to a
long chain.
