Ice rink and concession opens at Pinery Park
;RAND BEND - Winter has finally arrived! Bring
your skates! Bring your toboggan! Come and enjoy
the splendor of Pinery Park!
Pinery Provincial Park and The Friends of Pinery
Park are pleased to announce the opening of the ice
rink at the Winter Chalet. The rink is open to pleasure
skating only, daily, from 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. (Weather
permitting). Both the rink and the toboggan hill =have
night lighting. The Winter .Chalet is open daily, is
heated, has Washroom facilities and "a .wood .stove
adds,to the ambiance. An outdoor fire pit is available
for the weekends:
The Friends of Pinery Park are operating a Winter -
Concession Stand at the ice rink. The Concession is
open from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. during the week and
from 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on the weekend. The Friends
will be offering hot dogs, chili, 'snacks, coffee, hot
chocolate and pop.
This year, rental of cross country skis will be
offered from .The Friends of Pinery Park Winter
Concession at the Chalet. Full day rates are $12., 5
hour rate is 58. and, new for this year, a 3 hour rate of
56. Ski rental and lunch packages for groups of 20 or
more can be arranged. Ski rental information is
available by calling Shirley or Dawn at 243-1521.
The Friends of Pinery Park is a charity that raises
funds for park interpretive, educational, scientific and
historic projects and programs. Benefits for members
includenewsletters, special events, voting privileges,
and discounts in the "Savanna Shores" nature store.
Many charged with impaired driving

EXETER.- The -Jan. 22 session of provincial criminal court in Exeter
had a full docket, including a great nuinber of inipaired driving charges.
Judge R.G. Hunter presided. -
Impaired .driving
. James Jones, 54, of 301 Senior St. Apt 8, Exeter pleaded guilty to -im-
paired driving and refusal to take.a breath .
sample. • -
On'Nov. I, 1997 Jones was in an acci-
dent at the end of Wellington St. Exeter.-
When the police officer approached the ve-
hicle he detected an odor of alcohol and -
slurred speech. Jones was taken into police
headquarters but would not supply a brea-
thalyzer test. He .was ordered to pay a fine of $755 and a $5 surcharge.
He will also face a 12 -month driver's licence prohibition.
Jerald H. Broderick, 55, of' -24 Waterloo St. Exeter pleaded guilty.to
impaired driving and over 80:mg of alcohol- in tOO ml of blood.
On July 26, 1997 Broderick was driving a black Ford Mustang into
the Reeltime parking lot on Hwy. 4. An officer noticed when Broderick
got out of his vehicle he was unsteady on his feet.
A breathalyzer test showed he had 210 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of
blood.
Broderick was sentenced to three months in jail which he will -serve
on weekends consecutively until his sentence has heen.served. His driv-
er's license has been suspended.
Beverly Keller, 58, of 181 Queen St. N. Blyth pleaded guilty to oper-
ating -a vehicle with over 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood.
At 10 p.m. on June 6; 1997-a driver noticed a vehicle weaving in front
of him on Hwy. 4. When stopped by police, Keller had alcohol on his
breath, glassy eyes -and flushed face. A breathalyzer test showed 1-20 mg
of alcohol in .100 ml of blood. ' His driver's license was -suspended for 12 months and he was 'lined
$325 and a $5 surcharge which he can pay over. 12 -months
Mischief under 55,000 -
Darrell.L.Coleman, 28. of 154 King St. Apt. 1 Hcnsall pleaded guilty
to mischief under $5,000. - On Dec. 22 -at Classic Billiards in Exeter, Colcman allegedly knocked
a fire extinguisher off the mall; punched a hole in dry wall took -off his
shirt, pulled down his pants and tried to knock emergency lighting off
the wall. On Dec. 23 he was arrested and charged by police..
The victim was said to have, been contacted -on a number of occasions
for the monetary damage that was caused. The victim has not yet given
an amount.
Coleman was fined $500 which he can pay over a period of six
months. He was placed on a 12 -month probation period wherehe is or-
dered to stay out of Classic: Billiards.
- Stolen -property -
Ronald Sinnamon, 23 of 116 Main St. lower, Exctcr plcadcd.guilty,to
possession of stolen property as well as mischief under $1,000.
On May 1., 1997: Sinnamon stole a Free Spirit Mountain Bike valued
at about $400. The owner of the bike allegedly saw Sinnamon ride it
down Main Street and called the police. At 9:45 a.m. thepolice arrested.
Sinnamon. He was fined $250 and a $5 surcharge. •
Possession with intent to traffic --
William Girling,' 27; of 67 Dutchess Ave., London pleaded guilty to '
simple possession of narcotics and two counts of failure to comply with
probation. A.charge of theft and possession of stolen property was with:
-drawn.
On July 15, 1997 in Hay Township, Girling failed to•comply with an
order of probation to keep the peace. -At 4 a.m. he was pulled over in his
vehicle by police. Two Gerber -baby food jars filled with 140 grams of
cannabis residue were found..
Girling received a $100 fine, $5 surcharge and a $250 breach of pro-
bation fine. He was given' 120 days to pay -the fine.
Assault charges .
Scott Inson, 20, of 3225 Mt. Carmel Drive pleaded guilty to two "
counts -of failure to comply, assault. causing disturbanceand possession ,
of stolen property. =
On Sept. -23, 1997, Inson allegedly stole a•Yukon 21 -speed Mountain
Bike worth about $680 from agarage. The owner of the garage saw the
bike was missing and saw Insen riding it .down a street in Exeter. The -
man Saw lnsen drop the bike and run behind some buildings on Main
Street. Insen was arrested and charged with a violation of probation or-
dering him to keep the peace. -
On Oct. 1.0, '97, Inson was charged with'causing a disturbance. He
pleaded guilty to being involved with five others who beat up a patron of
Classic Billiards in Exeter.
On Dec. 18 '97 in Clinton, Inson and another man went into a Target .
store in Elgin at 11:15 p.m..lnson allegedly asked the man, "what are -
. you looking at" and pushed him into a chip display. Inson then left the
store. The victim allegedly ran outside after them holding onto a garbage
• can. Inson went back to the victim and allegedly rammed his head into a
brick wall. Inson was later -arrested by police. -
Inson has been in custody since Dec. 18:Judge Hunter sentenced him
to a total of six months in jail.
Roy Bullock, 59, of Lot 38 Stephen Twp. pleaded guilty to assault, _
but not guilty to use of a weapon in assault. ,
A dispute erupted when Bullock's wife allegedly said he was not the
biological father of their children. •- .
It was reported that Bullock chocked his wife, she bit his finger to -
make him stop and he pulled her hair and knocked her to the ground.
He then tried to swing a broom at her head but missed. The broom in-
stead went into the wall: He was reported to have been intoxicated at the
time. .
The. Bullocks have a beef and cash crop farm and have four adult chil-
dren. It was said that Bullock's wife believes'her husband has learned_
whathe did was wrong and has not drank since the incident.'She also ex-
pressed that his presence on the farm is important.
Hunter said, "I've taken into regard the facts and he's notwalking out
of here on probation." _ - ' • ,
Bullock was sentenced to 60 days on a count of assault and 30 days on
a count of assault with a weapon to be served intermittently. He was
placed on 12 months probation and ordered to keep the peace and take
anger control and alcohol abuse counselling as recommended by the pro- ,
bation officer. Hunter told Bullock to report to jail every Thursday at 9
a.m. to Friday at 6 p:m. each week until his sentence has been served. He
is also barred from owning firearms or explosives for five years.
Stephen A. Wurm, 20, of 176 Columbia Drive, Huron Park, pleaded
guilty to assault. - - - "
On Aug. 25, 1997 at 5:30 p.m. Wurm picked up his girlfriend in Cen-.
tralia and drove her to Huron Park. A dispute arosc and Wurm allegedly
accused his girlfriend of being,unfaithful. He grabbed her by the arms,
threw her to the ground and then brought 'her home. •
He was given a I2 -month probation order, an order to keep the peace
and must not possess any firearms or explosives for five years.
Regier's trial date set -
A preliminary hearing for Jeffrey Regier was held. Rcgier, charged
with open liquor in a vehicle, two counts of driving causing bodily harm
and dangerous driving causing death was committed to a trial date set for
March 3 at 1Q:30 a.m. at Exeter Court. A publication ban was (tut on•the
preliminary trial. - -
