One ch .tination spot that hasn't lost its popularity is Disneyland. "Disneyland' is still the number one vacation spot in the world," Wilder said, adding the reason for this is probably because Disney is constantly changing and adding -new parks: ` She said the newest addition to Disney is an -African Safari theme park which isexpected to open in April. Perhaps the real reason people are still venturing to Disney is because "there's.a little bit of kid in all of us," Wilder laughed. • People are also cruising more than they .used to. Caribbean cruises have always been a popular mode of vacation transport, but people .are also taking advan- tage of Alaskan cruises. An Alaskan cruise involves gliding through a land scape,of snow-capped mountains and sparkling water- falls, eyeing dense forests, glaciers and taking snap= shots of humpback whales and sealions. Warmer climates are desired by others and that is the reason Caribbean cruises remain high on one's travel list. Wilder said the reason people are cruising more than they use to is because it's become more affordable. Because of demand more ships are being built and more lines are being added. - It's no longer just for the elite," Wilder sans.- _ What -some travellers might find- different about hooking -a vacation is the service fee travel agencies charge. Last year, airlines put a cap on travel agent's commis- sions. Wilder said in order to compensate for this travel agents were forced to charge a service fee which can vary from around $10.to $25. Ellison travel charges a $10 service' fee. Snow birds are still taking long winter vacations but they're not visiting Florida like they used to. Most snow birds 'a're flying to places like Arizona where the dry weather relieves asthma and arthritis: Each year, more and more people want _to get away from the slush and snow and enjoy a little sun during the cold winter months. Whetherit be for three days, two weeks or two months, nearly everyone wants a winter break, be it in the jungle, on the beach or on a are discovering the jungles, history ant . 'iltures of islands By ('hantall Van Raay T -A Reporter EXETER - While people are still making their vacation spots the popular southern islands, they're not soaking up the sun like they used to. Now they're trudging through jungles and meeting. the -wildlife. They're learning different cultures and becoming wildly intrigued with island history. "People are truing; to get are out Of a holiday than skin cancer;"-, said mmanager of Ellison Travel, Laura Wilder. Instead of enjoying a typical "beach' vacation, people want to explore,, especially young seniors. Y "Young seniors, especially, are not content with sun holidays, they want to explore," said Wilder, explaining -the, reason for this is probably because people are .more active than they used to be. `Two popular' types of travel choices are Discovery Tours and Lifest, yle Programs. •An example of one discovery tour is a journey through the history, Beauty and culture along the coast- line Of the Yucatan Peninsula. The traveller will explore the jungle of ancient Mayan ruins, discover the sacred paradise of Xcaret where they can take a dip in natural pools surrounding botanical gardens while listening to the brilliant song of tropical birds. Also (tin'the agenda is a visit to an ancient walled city of the M5iyaiis, snorkel-= 'ing, and swimming in interlocking lagoons and discov- ering, maybe even interpreting archeological sites. While''discovery tours like this one ire' becoming popular vacations; beach holidays are still taken advan- tage of. " • The more popular spots are Cuba and -"Aruba. But with these, the traveller Wants everything. • Everything included, that is. . All-inclusive packages, Where the traveller pays for everything including drinks and meals aie high on one's agenda when planning a vacation, explained Wilder. "That way they know exactly how much their 'vaca- tion is going to cost before they go," she said. • But travellers are,not only going to southern spots to vacation, especially now that the Canadian dollar is so low. Some travellers are actually staving within Canada. Wilder said because some people have difficulty find- ,boat. ing time to vacation they take a couple short vacations a The ,(al t(nj 000r 'r FAMILY HAIR CARE,AND ESTHETICS "MEN'S HAIR CUT SPECIAL For the first two weeks of February (2nd to the 14th), all men's haircuts t►ws (age 10 and up) will be only $7.50.(includes'wash cut and style). iip . Every lady customer receives a rose on February 14th..
