Exeter'council maintains
support for ABCA levy
Under new pro-
vincial legislation,
Exeter was only re-
quired to pay $9,188
to the Authority.
EXETER - On Monday night,
Exeter council passed a motion to
maintain its'fut ding support for the
Ausable-Bayfield Conservation Au-
thority at 1997 levels. Exeter will
contribute $35,770 to the ABCA's
municipal levy:
Under new provincial legislation,
Exeter was only required to pay
- $9,188 to the. Authority. Council
briefly discussed this option but did
not think it was prudent to pay only
the minimum amount considering
the 'close relationship between the
Authority and the town at this time.
The ABCA board of directors
will vote on the levy at the annual
meeting in February. The vote is
weighted based on assessment.
Exeter has nearly 10 per cent of
the watershed's apportionment
based on 1997 figures making it the
largest municipal contributor to thL
ABCA.
