With no reserve-ations
Lots of dough. Lucan Lions Club president Clarence Haskett, left, and Lucan Community
Non -Profit Housing Corp. president Glen Nevin, right, accept a $79,570,cheque from Mid
dlex MPP Bruce Smith at a recent meeting. Nevin said the cash will be invested so the inter-
est hopefully offsets future costs of replacing stoves, fridges and carpets at the 35 -unit Li-
ons Parkview Place on Beech St. "Unfortunately those things tend to go all at the same
time," Nevin said, adding the money is a reserve the NDP government "took away" in '92
which the current•Tory government is restoring. The money is part of the province's $172.5
million grant program for capital improvements at non-profit and co-operative• housing pro-
jects. In '92 the province put a moratorium on funding capital replacement reserves for co-
op housing with no money going to repair non=profit housing or to buy new appliances over
the last five years. (photo/contributed)

Since bacteria are becoming resistant to many of the
older antibiotics, it is very important to take your anti=
biotic prescription till it's all gone. Many people don't
and save them in case the infection comes back.-
This
ack:This is not a good idea. The -antibiotic may be ex-
pired; there may not tie enough medication, for a Com-

Research into asthma cures is centered on an antibody called E25.
When this antibody is injected into humans, it neutralizes the antibodies
responsible for the production of histamine, the chemical that•cattses al-
lergy symptoms and can also trigger asthma symptoms. This won't be re-
leased for a few years yet.
Does the herbal product "dong quai" contain estrogens? Various flower-
ing plants don't contain estrogen, but some do yield chemical com-
pounds with weak. estrogen -like activity. However, no such chemical has
been identified in dong quai. Dong quai has been used for menstrual or
menopausal problems. At dosages of 2 grams a day or Tess, it appears
safe. -
It was back in 1914 that the treatment of thyroid insufficiency took a
leap forward when a Mayo Clinic biochemist isolated the thyroid hormone
thyroxin.
