Lucan will host 1997
H -P Senior Games
EXETER - Thanks to Lucan and
its surrounding • communities, The
Huron -Perth. Middlesex District
Senior Games will carry cin- this
year. .
According to Ron Dann, Tri -
County Coordinator, this summer's
senior games didn't have a 'host
community and it was in jeopardy
of folding. •
"We knew if somebody .didn't •
step up there wouldn't be a senior
games," said Dann. - .
That's when he turned to his-as-
-sistant coordinator, Gordon Clubb
from Lucan and said: Mel! Cord it
looks like it's going to be.Lucan."
Clubb and Norm Steeper, also
from Lucan agreed to play host to ,
the games this summer and solicit- -
cd the help of surrounding com-
munities at a meeting.
.Exeter, Strathroy, Glencoe. Park-
hill, Delaware and Ailsa'Craig will
also host the events which require
facilities Lucan can't provide.
' Dann said having somebody , to
-coordinate the Baines' was -vital ;and
June Hodgson; last year's co-
ordinator, has offered to provide as-
sistance to Steeper and other vol-
unteers. •
"It was a lot to thrust something.
Iikc this on to 'sdmebody who
doesn't know anything about it." he
said. He added finding a host this
-year has been a community effort.
"It's the communities working to-
gether to make this, work." .
- The Senior Games begin on June
-16 at 9 aan. at Ironwood in Exeter;
.at 10 a.in. Strathroy *ill hold con-
tact bridge, lawn bowling, tennis_
and walking events and Lucan will
host the horseshoe tournament. On
June 17, Glencoe will host crib -
hags; Lucan darts, Parkhill euchre,
Delaware shuffleboard, Ailsa Craig
solo and crokinolc will be played in
Lucan with all events starting at- 10
am. .•
