Scott Thompson, 17, from. Lucan was picked by the London Knights Jun-. for "A" hockey or- ganization on Sat-. urday during the Ontario- Hockey League draft held at Maple Leaf Gardens. Thompson who was London's sec- ond pick in._ the 1Ith round; said he was caught. off guard since he was already courting interests from • Belleville,. Oshawa and Kitch: cner. "I wasn't ex-. pecting to be drafted so close .to home,". said Thompson. But grabbing _ the attention of OHL scouts 'was . c' 'table. The six-foot 175 pound forward scored 23 goals and 25 as- sists playing centre for the Lucan Irish last season. A speedy skater With a goal scoring touch, Thomp, son was the team's ~coring leader and 5\ as named team rookie of the year. He also recei%ed -the- overall Rookie of the Year Award from the Junior Development League for the 1996-97 season. •- A product of the Lucan minor hockey system. "Strong defensive play by the en- tire team limited opposition -scor- ing chance. s," said coach/manager Chet Couture who credited goal - tender David McDonald with post- ing tour shutout; and had a 0.20 goals against ;n erage for the tour- nament..
