Walper Street issue settled After weeks of negotiation, it was de- cided a boundary adjustment would be the best solution EXETER - At long__last, Walper Street may get the -face-lift it needs. Hay and Exeter councils have been negotiating for several weeks and are now releasing the following statement to the press: The councils for the Township of Hay and the.Town of Exeter are pleased to -.announce they 'have agreed to a small boundary -adjust- ment that ill bring Walper Street and certain township lands. in- cluding the Hensall Co-op Store. into the Town of Exeter. The public is -aware of the poor condition of. Walper Street which serves properties in both municipalities. Various options for bring- . ing this road up to standard were considered such as cost-sharing and boundary adjustment. Hay and Exeter have agreed that boun- dary adjustment is the best choice. - The paperwork involved in a boundary adjustment will take a number of months to complete. Because of that delay and the ur- -gency associated with improving Walper Street, Exeter and Hay have also reached an agreement that will see this street repaired by Exeter before the boundary change is finalized. Both Exeter and Hay councils appreciate the efforts of the council representatives appointed to negotiate this solution. Though it may appear to be minor, any boundary adjustment is..in fact, a most complicated matter. The solution was achieved because of a coop- erative attitude shown by both municipalities and because of a de-. sire to serve the area's businesses.and residents better.-. • Exeter knows what's going on By Bruce Shaw I conducted a survey by telephone and personal conversation over thelast few days before the election. I talked to exactly 100 people from the Huron -Bruce riding (and two from Middlesex.) The results indicate that the residents of Exeter. or at least the people I talked to. are by -and -large aware of the candidates and the parties they represent (For the people I talked to, this survey is accurate 20 times out of 20. 100 per cent of the time.) • Asfor the number of parties in our riding, four per cent thought there were six parties. 8% 3, 28% four ani 60% had the right answer of five. The following chart reflects the 'awareness' le"vel of those interviewed: - Liberal 100 per cent - candidate Steckle PC -98 per cent - candidate Schenk Reform • 90 per cent - candidate Fines NDP - 76 per cent - candidate Johnstone CHP 1 42 per cent - candidate Joslin 98 per cent 70 per cent 60 per cent 30 per cent 14 per cent Of those• surveyed; only six per cent indicated that they would not be voting, a significantly better percentage than those who actually did not vote. • Crediton social club folds The 28 -year-old club will donate all of its funds to community related causes before it disintegrates at the end of June By Chris Skalkos T -A Reporter CREDITON - A dwindling mem- bership has forced the members of the Crediton and District Social Club to, ptit an end to the organiza- tion afteii 28 years.
