Exeter Nationals
mercy Crediton
EXETER - The Exeter Nationals
midget girls fastball team defeated
Crediton 34-0'during a hotne game
on Sunday night after a fourth in-
ning tall} brought home 15 runs. •
Lisa Campbell hit two home runs
and Julie Roosehoom added an-
other during the offensive streak .
that ended in the fifth inning under
• the mercy rule.
Lisa Geurts'hurled for all five in-
nings striking out six hatters while
only giving up two hits.
-The girls were using the.sticks
at the right time and are keeping a
- tight dctensive position on the
field," s.ud assistant coach Janie
Palsa.
The Nationals played Kitchener
on Monday night. however, results
were not available by press time.
Centennials win Cup game
EXETER - The Exeter Centenni-
als played three games. in the past
week.
Last Tuesday, in league play. the
team travelled to London to take on
Forest' United. ' Each • team con-
trolled the play for long sections of
the game and many good scoring
chances were created.
Chippy. 'play by the hosts earned
them two red cards. but despite the
two-man advantage. the Centenni-.
als could not buy a goal and had•to:
- settle fora 0-0 tie.
On Wednesday night, the team •
hosted a Cup game agairist Petrolia.
,T,he Centennial offense -came to)
life with Shawn liotteau. Mark
Brintneh and Scott.Rasenherg'each
notching a goal in ,the first half.
lBrintnell added another in the final
45 minutes to.send the Centennials
to the next r),und of the Second Di-
vision Cup tournament. which they
will host on July 9. -
On Sunday, the Centennials ran
into a wall of their own construc-
tion. Failing'to capitalize on any of
the many scoring chances they had
in the first half, the hosts found
themselves down 2-0 after 45 min-
utes. as the visiting 'Serbia squad
made good.on their only two oppor-
tunities. - -
The hosts stormed hack in the
second half. Dan Martens flicked
on a crossed hall and his brother
Joe headed it home to narrow the
score to 2- I. .
Five minutes later. Ruban Chella-
durai blasted a well-placed free
kick that -the Serbia keeper cpuld
not handle -and the score was tied.
However.; more. sloppy defensive
play gave the visitors one more op-
portunity which they used to
' squeak out -a 3-2 in. •
The Centennials' next see action
tonight (Wednesday) -against rival
Scottish at Nabisco Field at 6:30 ,
p..m.
