Russell is in contention for break-
ing the club's hiime run record set
by Jim Gunther in the•carly. 1980's
when the team was playing out of

St. Bonlface School students won second place in the
Gus Macker three -on -three Street Basketball Tournament
in London recently. The event was billed as Canada's larg-
est three-bn-three (including one substitution) tournament
cf its kind and featured 18 competitive teams. The sec-
ond place finish was a tremendous accomplishment for

Photo finish to pigeon race

EXETER Text long the shivery
northwinds blew; • and nothing
much in Huron County grew. Cash -
croppers, dairy men and poultry
people waxed increasingly impa-
tient. as rain and cold persisted.
Pigeon . people : (those who. prat-.
tise the fine art of pigeon -racing)
were also affected hy the coldest
spring in 80 years: few were the oc-
asions when the weather -was fa-
vorable -for for spring training. As it
was. the racing schedule had al-.
ready- heen. put hack hy• a week.
then the greatly anticipated open-
ing races had to he cancelled he -
cause of a day -long -rain.
The weather again put a damper
. on the• heightened enthusiasm - for
the races- .of the following week
when more rain --forced a hold -over
of the pigeons.until the next day..•
The- most recent rack frm •
- Brockville and Belleville stirred up
some of .the old excitement. Re-
leased at 630 Saturday` morning,
_the winning pigeon was clocked hy
Norm Hardy -• from • Lucan at
15.06.32. This. pigeon flew the dis-
tance of 484 kms. in six hours and -
36 minutes for a winning speed of
936. meters/min. Jim Whitworth
from the Forest area placed second.
