Gala fundraising event
Over 150 people attended the: Huron. Tourism Assocation gala fund raising event ori Satur-
day at the Huron Country Playhouse-. Guests could bid on several silent auction items and
win raffle prizes: The event raised over $3,000 which the HTA will use to promote tourism in
the county . The evening also included -a performance of 'The Wizard of Oz'.
Grandparents visit CDCS
CLINTON - The long weekend
in May was once again the setting
for the annual visit by grandparents
and seniors. to Clinton .and District
Christian School (CDCS).
About 230 grandparents and sen-
fors descended upon the school'be•
-
tween 10 and 11;30 a.m. on May
16. They socialized in the school
gym and visited classrgoms before.
lunch. At noon they were treated to
a soup and bu'n lunch prepared by
the schools Parent Teacher Associ-
ation (PTA) and served by the stu-
dents in Grades 7 and 8. After
lunch the student body presented a
variety program for their guests.
According to the principal Clar
ence Bos, "The day was. fantastic.
These grandparents and seniors
have an. uncanny way of teaching
the rest of us how to mix having
fun with a wonderfursense of rev--,
erence for life and for Gpd." • .
CDCS's in -school track and field
day was held on May 20. The day -
turned out to • be rather, cool, but
dry. According to Nick Geleynse,
the Grade 8 teacher and organizer
-
of the -day, "The students. teachers
and volunteers had a --good time to-
gether.'Onc of the highlights of the
day came near the eitd of the meet
when Angela .Ry,laarsdam, a Grade
7, student, knocked several centime-
tres off the school record for the ,11
and 12 years old girls in high jump-
ing. About half. the .student body
was present and cheering :for her
when she cleared (.28 metres:"
At noon, the (PTA -provided_ the
:students. staff and volunteers with a
lunch of sloppy. joes. organizers
are taking steps to •make the event
,into more of.a school community
event next..year. Mr. G,eleynse hint-
ed that. "While we can't do much
about .the weather for the. meet. we
are looking at wgysiof attracting a
larger parent audience."
Studehts participated in the pub-
lic school meet on Fiiday,,May 30
and they hope to participate in the
Woodstock District Track and Field
Meet in Woodstock on June 7.;
Last week- students .from Grades
kindergarten to five went to the
•Family Lit Festival in Clinton.
Fundraising golfer
Bob Osgood Junior sets up for a putt during a fundraising
golf toumament at Exeter Golf Club on Saturday. The United
Food Commercial Workers from Nabisco Brands Ltd. spon-
sored the event which was designed to raise money for leu-
kemia research. Osgood, who's father suffers from Leu-
kemia, was among the 50 golfers who showed up to
support the cause.
According to principal Clarence
Bos, the students, parent ; chape-
rongs and teachers thoroughly en-
joyed it., He added. 'Many of my
principal colleagues in a. number of
other counties envy us in Huron
County for this opportunity, to ex-
perience these authors, artists and
singers."
