pre -publicity for Wednes-
day's Participation Fitness
Challenge, Mayor Bruce
Shaw was arrested Monday
morning for being unfit. After
spending a few minutes be-
hind bars he was released on
his own promise to participate
in today's activities in which
all residents are asked to jog,
walk or any activity that gets
the heart going,

May 19, 1977 - Howard and
Peter Hughes, founders of
Hughes Boat Works, have an-
nounced they will sign an
agreement today to purchase
the assets of North Star
Yachts of Huron Park. Pro-
duction is expected to start the
first week of June.
As the result of nomination
meetings held Thursday night,
it will he incumbent Liberal
MPP Jack Riddell facing a
challenge from Progressive
Conservative Anson McKin-
ley in the forthcoming provin-
cial election in the riding of
Huron -Middlesex. The NDP
candidate - will he Shirley
Weary.
A former teacher at Pre-
cious_ Blood Separate School
in Exeter, Dave Zyluk will
represent the NDP party in the
Huron -Bruce riding.

May 18, 1967 - Pcr'ever-
ance and considerable pa-
tience has paid off as Grand
Bend council has finally
learned from the Ontario De-
partment of Lands and Forests
regarding the' amount of land ;
which is included in the vil-
lage's licence of occupation.
This -occupation licence cov-
ers a distance of 500 feet from
the water's edge on Lots 1,
Lake Road West in the Town-
ships of Stephen and Bosan•
-
quet. This territory extends
from the southerly boundary
of Oakwood Park to the pier.

May 20. 1957 - Board of di-
rectors of South Huron Hospi-
tal announced this week that
it has purchased the residence
of. Dr. and Mrs. Steiner on
Huron Street, which will be
the site of the proposed new
nurses' residence. •
Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Grat-
ton, both natives of Grand
Bend will open the new Golf -
view White Rose Service Sta-
tion, just north of Grand Bend,
this weekend. ,

May 19, 1957 - Students at
Exeter District High School
are tearing down their gutted
agricultural barn and preparing
to build it up again.
Hurondale Women's Insti-
tute at its annual meeting held
at the home of Mrs. Harry
Strang voted a donation of
$600 to the South Huron Hos-
pital fund.
Huronia Male Choir under
the direction of Mrs. Harold
Sturgis, took first prize at a
musical festival in Goderich
last night.
Some 80 students and teach-
ers from Usborne Township re-
turned home tired but happy
after spending a weekend in
Ottawa. They met Prime Min-
ister Louis St. Laurent.

the new highway? The stretch

to Clinton, a distance of 28
miles is said to be the longest
