William Dinney, like many kids whose family owns a small business, spent a lot of time during his youth doing odd jobs around the Dinney Funeral Home. He washed cars, mowed the lawn and learned how to make funeral arrangements for the Exeter Funeral Home which was owned and operated by Robert C. Dinney since 1945. By 1970 William had graduated from Humber College Funeral Service Education in Toronto and joined his father in the funeral home. For 27 years William has worked with his father in the funeral home as Well as in the furniture store and as manager of the carpet centre. In 1994 William took over as manager of the Front focal point of the Funeral Chapel funeral home and in 1995 sold the carpet centre and operated the funeral business for d one year period. He wanted to make sure it was the right move for all those involved including the people of Exeter and area, and they really let him know it was right for them! "We have been • getting funerals not just from the Exeter area but from Bayfield, London, Woodstock, Toronto, Peterboro, British Columbia, and Florida to name a few. Families are positively vocal of the services and the changes he has made to the funeral home. Where many casket selection rooms are cold and eery, William has a warm and comfortable one letting his customers feel at ease. Ha has also added a new preparation room which'is said to be one of the nicest in Ontario. "If I'm going to do it then I am going to do it right" he says of business, "I believe in delivering the best service, being professional, flexible, and making it personalized." That same positive attitude has been reflected in William's participation in the community. He is President of the Arrangement office and family lounge Victorian style front. entrance with pillars, solid oak doors and hand rails with a cherry finish. Optimist Club, and has been a Scout leader for nine years, because he enjoys working with young people. He has recently joined the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation to help raise funds for the Conservation Areas because he enjoys helping with the environment. As a devoted husband and father he enjoys family time with his wife Cathy and his four children, Simon, Molly, Kyle and Justine. William has also been Past President of the Kinsmen Club, member of Exeter Legion, Past President of the Tennis Club, post member of the Exeter United Church'official board and a soccer coach. He also likes walking through the woods, canoeiur)g down a river, camping, amateur hockey, golf and swimming. r The staff at the Dinney Funeral Home is rounded off by the continued participation by his father, Bob and his mother Ada, his wife Cathy and Myla Dykstra as the receptionists and assistant funeral director John Hendrick of Grand Bend (formerly of Exeter). William works long hours as he encourages people to visit the funeral home for consolation or to talk about funeral prearrangements. He also encourages tours by local groups such as Zurich Boy Scouts, Time Out Ladies Group, and United Church Sunday School Group to talk about funerals of today. "Funerals are not a time to mourn for the dead, but a time to celebrate that person's life" says William who also feels viewing the body is one of the most important aspects of the funeral ceremony. "As a member of a small community and part of the funeral industry I take comfort in the belief, that if we act from our hearts in both the care of our dead and those who remain then we need not fear this mystery called death." _ THE BUILDING WILL BE THE FOCAL POINT ON EXETER'S MAIN STREET FOR MANY YEARS TO COME We werevery pleased .to have supplied materials for your lovely new facilities.
