By Brenda Burke T -A Reporter EXETER - In keeping with current competitive employment times, Jim Workman realizes, "it's harder and harder to get jobs. That's why hebecame involved as organizer of Crossroads '97 Career Expo at South Huron District High School last Wednesday. "We thought we would like to promote career awareness," he explained, adding it's one attempt to broaden the job focus of students. The first of its kind at SHDHS, the expo featured 22 career displays and 41 presentations. It was the main project for the school's World of Work and Community College program, of which Workman is a team leader. The program was initiated last September after school departments were replaced by team leaders. "It's been overwhelming...the number of people (who) have come to participate," he said, adding half of the, displays were of local businesses and organizations. Included was information on the Stratford Festival, Canadian Armed Forces, colleges and banks. Presentations held in classrooms featured careers in farming, massage therapy, ice sculpting and television. The expo was of benefit to presenters as well as students.
