However, quick action by organizers saved the day. The event was a fundraiser for Exeter Minor Hock- ey. Many hours of service "...it was comforting to know that. Jane was at school doing what we would have done had we been able to be there." Dear Editor: • Next week the Exeter Public School Parents Asso- ciation will elect a new president. Asa parent with children at that school; I would be amiss if I did not thank President Jane Hefley for her dedication and hard work for the, association. For thelast seven to eight•years, Jane has worked tirelessly and unself- ishly on the behalf of all of our kids, volunteering dozens of hours each month at Exeter Public School in her capacity as President. She represented the in- terests of kids and parents but she had a wonderfully easy and respectful way of doing so. Jane has done a great deal for reinforcing, the idea that the education of our children is an exercise in partnership between the home and school. I believe I represent many working parents when I say that it was comforting, to know that Jane was at school doing what we . would have done had we been able to be there. When someone comes forward from among us to provide the kind of excellent community service Jane has done, we ought to say thanks. Thanks, Jane Hefley! .'• Deb Homuth, Exete'r Article enjoyed "Even though it was short, it was very good." Editor: Last week your paper printed an article on the front page of your paper. It said "Concerned towns folk ask for pit bull ban." This concerns my family. and I because we own the only registered pit hull in town, as town hall knows. ' • He (Grunt) is a happy, anxious friendly dog. In London, children fed him licorice over our fence. He's the type of dog that just wants your attention. If there is only one pit bull in town, why set an ex- ample of him when he has never caused anybody harm. If owls. birds. lions and tigers can be human imprinted, why can't big dogs? Pit hulls may have a history of fighting dogs. But wasn't that the owner's choice. not the dogs?.They say if you love an ani- mal. it will love you hack. But if you tease it• you will only make it mail. But isn't that the same with us. , There is no reason to place a ban 60 Our dog. He mean's nobody harm. Please don't harin him. • - Yours sincerely. Pon DeBoer, Exeter Not the timefor an election "Outside of the P. M. 's, ambitions -there is no valid reason." Dear Editor: So, we are to have an unyvanted; unnecessary[ ex- pensive federal election to satisfy the ego of our ' prime minister! Obviously he is insensitive to the suffering in Manitoba; regardless of what he says. Perhaps he is in fora big shock if Canadian citizenwake up'and vote him out of power'? After all, he has 111/2 years to go in his mandate, .so why an election now'? Out- side of the P.M.'s ambition, there is no valid reason. - As for our total area, we are represented by the gun lobby., not a real M.P. I wonder if he'is allowed in caucus; fora long time he wasn't. He can he as - "independent" as he claims. we need somebody who speaks for all the people.
