Camp Menesetung prepares for summer campers Volunteers are need- ed to help clean up at the Camp on May 3. By Joan Beierling Varna correspondent ARNA - Apnl 27 was designat- ed as Christian Camping Sunday in recognition of the importance of camp ministry to both children and adults. The cleanup day at Camp Me- nesetung will be this Saturday, May 3. All willing hands are appreciated and should call Carol Simons if in- terested or for more information. The Varna U.C.W. will meet May I at 8 p.m. at the church' Shar- on Chuter will speak on telephones. Confirmation class will meet at 5:30 p.m. on May 2. The Trends will meet at the Brucefield Church on May 2 and at 9 a.m. on Saturday' morning. The Teens will meet May 4 at 2 p.m. If you have spring cleaning and outdoor work, you can hire a Trend on May 3 to help you with any job around the house. All donations will go to support a scholarship for a student in Bluefields, Nicaragua, and for the Trends to go on a Pres- bytery Youth trip to Canada's Wonderland. The Five Alive Committee is looking for -volunteers for a Youth Choir. They can contact any Five Alive Committee member or .Heather Laurie. A Light and Lively Variety Fair prekented by the Five Alive Committee will be held in Varna on June 8. If you are willing to take part, contact a Five Alive committee member as soon as pos- sible.' 1 Camp Menesetung is celebrating their 50th anniversary on June I at 2:30 p.m. There will be food and Fundraiser fun for all ages. Bring your own lawn chair. Tickets for the Varna pork barbe- cue on June 18 are now available. The Stan Lee Club will meet at the Complex at 8 p.m. on May 7. Huron Centennial School are having a Spring Extravaganza to celebrate 30 years on May 24. The day starts out with -a farmers break- fast from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. There will be a bake table, penny sale, 1games, road hockey tournament and much more. Many people from the area at- tended "Love Country 'Style" pre- sented by the Carry on Cloggers at the Blyth Memorial Hall on Sun- day. Many people from the area 'also took part. Proceeds from this show went to the Children's Hospi- tal of Western Ontario and Child Find in Huron County. Special guest were the "Canadian Heri- tage Step Dancers." Life Sunday at Centralia church People can bring their seeds to the ser- vice for blessing. By Mary Peterson Centralia correspondent CENTRALIA - At Zion, on Sat- urday morning, April 27, many `people prepared a pancake break- fast. Down the road in Centralia, the women of the U.C.W. were baking pies. They started Friday night, and by Saturday morning had prepared more than 100 apple, raisin and cherry pies. On April 27, Rev. Bob Ball of Goderich United Church was guest speaker. Several members of the Session, including Becky Harrett, Donna Smith, Iva Blair, Ray Mills, Sam Skinner, and Elmer Powe helped lead the worship. Rev. Ball's sermon was entitled "Plant- ing and Pruning." Flowers in the sanctuary were placed in memory of Wes Rollings. June and Bill Essery celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on April 27. Everyone offered them best wishes and joined in song. On Saturday, they enjoyed an anniver- sary dinner with their family from Centralia, Wiarton, Windsor, and Pontiac, Michigan, in Sarnia. Committee speaks on governance issues GODERICH - Huron County's social and cultural services commit- tee was a "voice from the wilder- ness" at provincial hearings on li- brary funding changes. During the province's Mega - week of announcements of changes in funding responsibilities, it was learned that the province will no longerfund libraries. Huron County Librarian Beth Ross said the committee was told that the revenue potential from new user' fees could not make up for grant losses. Sam Skinner announced that May 4 will be Rural Life Sunday. Everyone is invited to bring their seeds to worship for blessing. On May 11, the Sacrament of Baptism will be celebrated at Cen- tralia United Church. Centralia Faith Tabernacle The youth will be travelling to Brucefield Public School to Youth for Christ at 8 p.m. There will be special music and the guest speaker will be Pastor Chris Wiersma from Goderich Pentecostal Church. This will be the last Y.F.C. meeting un- til next fall. The third praise night for the March for Jesus will be held on May 5 at 7:30 P.m., at Exeter Pen- tecostal Tabernacle. Euchre results In Crediton recently, Lone Hand winners in the euchre games were Betty Coates and Gil Northey. Ber- nice Squires and Harry Noels were High Hand winners, while Low Hand winners were Esther Hodgins and Janie McDowell. Upcoming activities On April 4, the Exeter Communi- ty Band and Community Choir will perform at 2 p.m. at Trivitt Angli- can Church in Exeter. A goodwill donation would be appreciated to support the local food bank. "The Torchmen", sponsored by Caven Presbyterian Church, will present a concert at 7 p.m. on May 4 at South Huron Rec Centre. Ad- vance tickets are $8 and can be or-• dered by calling 235-1495. Tickets at the door will be $10 or $20 per family. The Community Churches Joint Worship Service will be held at Thames Road Church on May 25.
