Meeting on sewer, water update

GRANTON - l3iddulph Township Council held a
meeting at Granton fire hall on Wed., April 23 when a
'sewer study update and a' water system update were
both on the agenda.
, Another history book meeting was held at the Bid-
dulph Township office in Lucan April 21. Anyone
wanting assistance . in' writing about their location
should call the township office.
The annual Optimist Fish Fry,at the K -W community
centre on Sunday, April 28 was well attended and quite
enjoyable. Over 1,000. advance tickets were) sold. What
a crowd!. ,
At Granton United Church on Sunday, Pastor Nor-
malie' Voakes entitled her sermon"To prune or not to
prune' based on the readings from Acts 8, 1st John- 4
and John 15. , ,:
At St. Paul's Anglican Church, Kirkton on Sunday,
Rev.- Glenda Meakin's message was about the True
Vine and the Love of. Christ. The lessons were read by
Norma Paul, Mary Blackler and the minister.
The annual ACW conference was held at St. Paul's
Cathedral in London on Sat., April 26 with'the theme.
`, 'Honouring the past as preparation for the future!' The
focus was 'the young shall dream dreams and the eld-
ers see visions.' Attending from St., Paul's, Kirkton
were Mary Blackler, Rosemary Schaefer, Verna Black-

Elie Dann Was the hostess for the Granton, Women's
Institute annual meeting Mon„ April 21 when the roll
call was answered by naming a favourite spring flower
and membership fees.
Muriel Lewis opened with a poem about Happiness.
Reports were organized and the annual financial
statement was read. Arrangements were made to attend
the district annual in Ailsa Craig on May 13, and the
May meeting will take the form of a field trip on May
22.
Everyone took part in the program when Alma Nich-'
olson read "The Brothers. Muriel Lewis read the
"Bright Side." Elsie had some, humorous short stories,
Florence Bryan a,poem The clock of life, and Florence
McRobert a story Wild Turkeys for New Year's.

Officers for 1997-98 are as follows: president Muriel
Lewis, first vice Florence McRobert, secretary -
treasurer Florence McRobiert, assistant secretary Olive
Hodgins, district director Florence Bryan, alternate
D.D. Muriel Lewis, P.R.O. Nora; Wissel, program co-
ordinator Florence Bryan, resolutions Elsie Dann, T.H.
curator Muriel Lewis, branch directors Alma Nichol-
son, Nora Wissel, Florence Bryan, Examiners Elsie
Dann and Nora Wicssel. ,
Refreshments were served by hostess Elsie.

You." The choir sang "Holy Savi-
our" accompanied by organist Jean

Many people attended the Open
House at Exeter United Church a
week ago Sunday to honor Bill and
Virla Allen on the occasion of their
50th, wedding anniversary.
It was good to see John Pym at
church after his recent hip opera-
tion. He was on crutches. •
Upcoming events
The Reconstruction Committee is
holding a Congregational meeting
on May 7 at Thames Road United
Church at 7:30 p.m. The purpose of
this meeting is to fill the slate for
Church council through volunteers
and nominations. Job descriptions
for committees will be mailed to
everyone with the newsletter.
The Reconstruction Committee
will meet at 7 p.m. on April 30 at
Elimville United Church.
Sunbeams will meet at Thames
Road Church on May 1 at 9:30
a.m.
On May 1, the Youth Group will
meet at Thames Road at 6:15 p.m.
They are each to bring $4 for bowl-
ing and pizza. The children can be
picked up at the church at 9:30
p.m. For more information contact
Kathy, Bray at 229-8863 or Melo-
nie Miller at 235-1282.
On May 5, Thames Road U.C.W.
will meet at 8 p.m, The program
will be run by Pat Ballantyne, Lor-
raine Alexander, Kay Hodgert and
Marg McCarter. The roll calli11
be "Your mother's maiden name".
Group U will serve lunch.
There will be a joint Sunday
School teachers meeting on May
13 at Elimville at 7 p.m.
The Community of Rural
Churches steering committee has.
planned a combined service of
worship, music and fellowship at
10:30 a.m. on May 25 at Thaines
Road United Church. The guest
speaker will be Kevin Stewart. The
choir will practi,.e on May 4 at
Elimville and May 11 and 18 at
Thames Road. Everyone is invited
to joint the choir.
