They also went for a tour of the Bluewater. Water 1 Plant. • On April 26' the Cubs will be cleaning up around the property of the Co-op building to show their appreciation for donated material • for their Cub trailer. The team had an amazing record of only losing two of 22 playoff games. Hensall thought he heard a train passing his Highway 4 property around 4 p.m.. Monday. What he realized seconds later the noise was that of a devastating tornado which ripped through portions of Hensall and the Townships of Hay, Tuckersmith and Hibbert before heading to the Dublin area. 1 The tornado left in its wake a trail of flattened barns. homes. trees, poles and anything else that stood in its path. It started in Hay town- ship ripping off portions of a building belonging to Ken Elder and • Don Mann before creating major havoc in Hensall and points to the east. It narrowly missed the Hensall Puhlrc school and the main por- tion of the village. It swooped down to destroy the -garage and snack bar of Harold Elliott on the southern limits of town. • A furnace from the Elliott garage was carried more than a half mile. The next ►'.•rims were the properties. of Glenn' Bell. Bert. Branderhorst. Marcel Vanneste and the S.S. 1, Tuckersmith school- house. Also flattened were barns on the properties of Grant McLean, Harry Stnith and Bob Bell. • . 40 YEARS AGO April 20. 1957 - Local Girl Guides sold 5,640 Hot Cross buns which were delivered. Thursday. Ersman:s Bakery made the buns and Captain Mrs. Bob Luxton bagged them. It w,'. fthers' and daughters' night at the Exeter Lions meeting at Armstrong's Restaurant Thursday evening. Lion Jack Doerr pro- posed a toast to the daughters and Mks Sandra Walper replied. • 45 YEARS AGO April 22, 1952 - A Centralia RCAF pilot trainee died instantly • Wednesday morning when his plane crashed near a forced landing field at St. Joseph. near Zurich. South Huron Junior Farmers will tackle the big job of painting and placing owners' names on all mail boxes in the township of Usborne this spring. • ' H.K. Penhale, acting manager of the Canadian Canners branch m (. Exeter announced this week that the plant will handle close to 2,000 acres of contract produce this year. • 50 YEARS AGO . Fine weather is being anxiously waited to put the finishing touch- es on Centralia Airport. SS YEARS AGO April 21. 1942 - Mr. Allan W. Pickard of Regina, an Exeter Old Boy, brother of C.V. Pickard of town has been named vice-president of the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association. Mr. Pickard attended the annual meeting held in Toronto this week. No less than 92 adults and 36 school 'girls have signed up_for courses sponsored by the local Red Cross under the leadership of Mrs. W.D. Weekes. Ninety-one pupils of the Exeter High School tried examinations at Exeter to leave school to do farm work. 80 YEARS AGO April 20, 1917 - Cars are becoming quite thick in Crediton and it is expected the village wi,ll'soon need a traffic officer. { HOMME volunteers The Victorian Order- of Nurses Helping Others Maintain Middlesex Elders (HOMME) program held a Volunteer Appreciation Day recently in Ildertorf.
