Dianne ShaptAh, chairperson ' of Pioneer Days in the schools pre- sented commemoratiyc plaques -to .each of the three schools. Accept- ,ing the plaques on behalf of their • schools were Carol Anne Munn, Hensall H.S., Nick Haberer, Zurich, P.S.; and Cameron Becker. St. Bon- iface. Phyllis. Deichert presented a quilted wallhanging which she de- signed and. created with assistance from Eleanor (Prang) Coleman. It will hang in .the Hay Township. council chambers. Reeve Murray . Keys accepted the gift and ex- pressed appreciation. , During the evening, ' entertain- ment was provided by local musi- cians led by George Go dholt, Exet- er. Gcorgc Mathonia, Zurich and Max Ducharme, Zurich., A" lunch : was served. Special presentations of cheques were made to four groups repre- senting arca seniors and youth. Frcd'Habcrer accepted $3.000 on behalf of Blue Water -Rest Home from Bud Wilson. Butch Hoffman accepted $ I.000 on behalf of the Hensall Park's Board from Bill Munn. Steve .Ha- berer accepted $1,000 on behalf of Zurich Minor Athetic from Heather Klopp. t. Shirley Mousseau, co-chair of the steering committee was chairperson for the evening. Certificates awarded at Grand Bend Church GRAND BEND - The United Church Women held a meeting April 10 in the Sunday School rooms at the church President Eve- lyn Johnson welcomed all and read .in opening on "New .Life and Promise." Laura Flewelling read scripture and a prayer. Hymns were sung with Irene Kennedy at the piano. Jean Cassidy gave a program read- ing about the trials of a young blind person and how he learned braille. The roll call was answered by 24 women by reading a table grace. "ihc group is planning their annu- al Thankoffering service on June 1 The 35th anniversary of the U.C.W. organisation willhe held in July in Hamilton. The U.C.W. received .a letter from the Canadian Bible Society expressing their gratitude for their support of the used stamp program.. Each pound of stamps is -sold for $4.50, the average cost of produc- ing and disiributing a Bihlc. Last year the program raised approxi- mately. $3.40( so that over 750 Bibles were made available to poo - plc. • , ..Lucy Sagc.gave a presentation on .banners tier the church walls. Putman's sermon topic was "What • have you got to say?" with scriptures read by Doug Riddell. In his talk to the children, Rcv. Putman talked to them about happi- ness, sharing and•doing kind deeds for -others. The choir's anthem the "Praise Ye the Lord." The Prayer Chain is now active. Call .Lucy Sage, 238-8756, or the church office' if you wish to join. • At the April 20. service at Grand Bend United, Rev. R. Putman's ser- mon topic was "The Sheep of My Fold." Psalm 23 was repeated in unison and the choir sang "The King of Love My Shepherd Is." • During the .children's• time they sang a couple of 'action songs ac- companied by Irene Kennedy at the piano. Receiving "Religion in Life" cer- tificates were: Stage one - Saman- tha Aingc. Sarah Robertson - Bendel, Katherine Craig, Amy Jen- nison, Charlie Love and Matthew Tremain; Stage two - Kaley Jenni- son. Their leader, Paula Taylor, as- sisted Rev. Putman in the presenta- tion. • The U.C.W. will be making tur- key pies on April 29. Place your or- der with 'Low Raithby at 238-5525. Grand Bend Golden Agers held their 'hi -weekly euchre Wednesday .evening, April 9. with 11 tables in play.
