OPSEU letter
EXETER = Council gave short
.shrill to a letter from Leah Cas-
selman, President, Ontario Pub-
Iic Service Employees Union
(OPSELIJ. Casselman's letter to
all inunicipal councils stressed
the negative impact of the• pro-
vincialcuts to municipalities. .
-Excerpts from her letter include:
"Downloading means communi-
ties pay more .... If you've
. seen any government TV ads
lately: you might get the impres-
sion that the changes an-
niwnced in January •will im-
prove the way public services
are funded and delivered. J
wish that were true. But 'disen-
tanglement' is not about im-
proving services, it's about two
things: money and blame. The
government takes the 'money .
Municipalities take the blame ..
.. There is hope the govern
ment will come to its senses
But to make that happen. you've
got to act." -
Councillor Ruhcrt Drummond
seemed to suni up council's .
feelings that it is already doing
what it can. and "Knowing who.
she represents. 1 don't think
she's -interested in just our situa-
tion."
