The large number of fans on hand
to witness the game, blew horns
and cheered wildly as captain Mar-

Juvenile Championship Cup high
above his :head and led - the team
around the icc for the victory pa-

The celebration spilled into the
dressing room where players took
turns sipping from the cup and
smoking cuban'cigars to the beat of
rock music blaring from the radio.
The Exeter Volunteer Fire. De-
partment was quick to respond to
the arena after the game giving the
team the honorary ride around town
.on the bright red tanker truck while
a procession of cars followed honk-
ing their horns and shouting out of
windows:
"This feels awesome!" said M.
. -deBruyn. "And we even made it ex-
citing for the fans;' he said about
the close. third period that kept
spectators on the edge of. their
seats. -
DcBruyn credited the (earn. for
keeping cool under the heat of the
moment and for sticking to their
game plan.
"We were dumping the puck and
staying out of the penalty box and
when wc do that we can only win.
he said. "Nobody heats us in our
own arena.' he said pointing nut
they were undefeated at home..
When asked what was the hest
part of winning a. provincial title.
deBruyn responded:. ."Having our
pictures hanging in the foyer of this .
building for the next 30 years."
Trainer Mike Soldan said he and
Don .Richardson coached four
players on this squad since the
tyke -level and to finally' sec them
win a provincial title was an. in-
describable feeling.

thc provincial title was a fitting

they will he over-agers next season

"These guys arc (cam leaders and

was awarded the penalty and the ref
responded by evicting him from the
game.
"He told me to 'get out of here'
and I didn't know why. I wasn't ar-

Wilson. "When you call hack a

wouldn't. even let my captain tell

Wilson said the game was lost at
that point and his dismissal
wouldn't effect the outcome of the
gamc. but he felt the referee's ac-
tions were unjustified.
"1'm wasn't upset about losing to
Madoc. I was upset because he
didn't let me finish the gamic on the
bench." he said. adding a number
of Madoc fans also disagreed with
the refs actions. "That was a sour
note for etc." •
Despite the dismal outcome. the
Stcphcn Township Peewees had a
successful playoff season sweeping
Thedford • in the semi-finals after
defeating Drayton in a close see-
saw.crics that went the distance in-
cluding a dramatic overtime win in
the fifth and sinal game.
Wilson said heating Drayton was
' a tremendous team accomplishment
and a hands -down highlight of the
season because Drayton had won
this year's International Silver
Stick tournament.
Refusing to let the Iasi Madoc
gamc dominate his memory of the
season. Wilson chose to focus on
the positive and credits the players
for pulling together as a teatn.
"We had a good hunch of kids. I
could take them to any tournament
and not worry about supervising
them," he said. "They cared about
one another and they were really
team oriented."
