Mortgage burning
Emmanuel Baptist Church in Exeter ce'ebrated its 35th
anniversary Sunday by burning the mortgage on the property it
purchased last year on Hwy. 4, just south of Exeter. A
committee has been established to decide what type of new
building will best serve the needs of the church. Participating
in the mortgage burning ceremony are: Lauren Webster, Ron
Heywood, Blanche Rundle and Steven Vanderlaan.
Shoppers paradise at
Stephen Central School
CREDITON - The excitement is starting to build and the auctioneers
arc getting their vocal cords ready to sell all the special items at Stephen
Central Public School's 'Extravaganza Night' Time and Talent Auction,
this Friday night. Apri1.1 I at 7:00) p.m. .
The preliminary work which began in September 1996 is finally
taking shape and the doors will open at 6 p.m. on Friday night to let
shoppers browse at all the wonderful items to be auctioned off.
Bob Heywood and Brett Coulter (both parents within the school) will
be the auctioneers for the evening and will certainly be kept busy as 109
items are itemized to be auctioned off with more items coming in every
day.
During the evening; a new twist will be
added. A Chance Auction is planned for the
evening. Special items.will be available to the
audic(,ce with only the payment of a loonie
and a ticket.
"The evening is certainly going to be a lot
of fun. The donations from the parents of the
school and the community have been .
wonderful. Some of the items are very unique
and you can tell that even the students have
come up with some great ideas" said chairman
Dianne Finkbeiner. •
"Where else can you buy bed and breakfast
accommodations, some computer training,
pamper yourself with reflexology and facials and even get a load of
manure for your garden? The place to be is Stephen Central Public
School" added Finkbeiner.
The Crediton United -Church Women will have scrumptious baking
for sale donated by the community and school families and local
volunteers with students assisting will have hot food and drinks ready
for you when you arrive on Friday night.
If you would like to leave your vehicle at home, give Deb Lord a call
at 234-6396 by Wednesday night: A shuttle bus is planned to leave
Exeter for anyone in Dashwood and Grand Bend. Another bus will have
stops in Centralia, Huron Park. and Crediton.
Come out and join in the fun, help the school with their fundraiser
and pick up some unique items for yourself.

The Lenten luncheon and service
at the_ Granton United Church was
very well attended on Wednesday,
March 26 at noon. Pastor Doug
Loveday of the Community Bible
church_ gave the meditation about.
the Fruit of Love, especially God's
Love.
Elizabeth Parkinson and son Rob-
ert of Lucan attended a family gath-
ering at the home of Julie and Wal-
ter Riddell on Easter Sunday. . •
Nora Wissel was entertained by
her family on Easter Sunday.
At the Granton United Church on
Easter Sunday. March 30 Pastor
Normalie Voakes led the commun=
ion service.
A presentation was made to Lisa
Mardlin for her many years of ser-
vice as organist by Marilyn Hum-
phrey on behalf of the Granton
United Church.
The Good Friday service was
held at Granton United in the eve-
ning for both churches.
At St. Pauls Anglican Church, •
Kirkton on Easter Sunday the Rev.
Glenda Meakin celebrated the holy
Eucharist and her message was
about the importance of sharing the`
Easter message.
The lessons were read by Muriel
Lewis,. Andrea Blackler and. the
minister.
• The Good Friday service was
held in the morning at St. Pauls,
Kirkton when -the scriptures were
read by Norma Paul, Mary Blackler
and Rev. Glenda Meakin. Robert
Parkinson and Muriel Lewis attend-
ed a very traditional Seder Meal

#1 Granton 4 H Club
The Granton 4 H Club gathered
at the home of Gemma and Lenny
VandenBerg on Thursday March
20 and then went on for a tour of
the DeKort Dairy Farm. First, at the
cow barn they saw the cows being
milked and learned that this is done
twice a day. Next they saw the rest
of the barn and Mary Mcllhargcy
thanked Mr. DeKort for the tour.
Later, they returned to the home of
leader Jean Mclthargey. At this
time, Cheryl Harrigan spoke about
judging. Then Lisa Dekter and
Gemma VandenBerg made a ba-
gette . au fromage and Charlotte
McIlhargey made strawberry, vanil-
la and chocolate mirk shakes. Jodi
Pronchuk was the secretary and re-
porter.

sons were read by Mary Blackler,
Norma Paul and the minister.

Unit one met on Thursday April
3• for a noonday pot luck lunch at
Nora Wissel's place. President Do-
reen McRobert opened the meeting
with the hymn 'The old rugged
cross.' Business discussion includ-
ed the mothers and others luncheon
• on May 10 and the. General UCW
was announced for April 8.
Doreen continued the program,
reading about the mystery of the
monastery. Madeline Hardie con-
cluded with 'a game of two words
equal one.
Unit 3 met • on Tuesday night.
April 1 at Elizabeth Garrett's home
and as president she opened the
meeting with an April -Fool's read-
ing. The -meditation theme was
house cleaning when Ruth Cook
read 'Second Helping' from the
• chicken soup for soul book. Kathe-
rine Malcolm was the guest speaker
on the women of the Ukraine when
she told of her experiences, having
visited there with her husband.
Katherine brought home over 200
pen pal letters to be given out here.
Refreshments were served by Ruth
and hostess Elizabeth. -

On Thursday April 3 the Granton
if 4 H Club met at the home of
Margaret Bryan for the project
Milk Makes it better. After opening
With the 4 H pledge, they discussed
.the achievement night and did a
quiz on ice cream and also a word
scramble. Then they made sundaes
and sampled ice cream pizza which
had been made before hand by the
McIlhargey. girls. The meeting was
closed with the 4 H motto. The last
Meeting will be the achievement
night on April 10. The secretary
and reporter was Jodi Pronchuk.
