Manager retires
Joyce Black is retiring -at the beginning of -May from Na-
tional Trust. after 35 years. An open house will be held in
May in her honor. Black's job as Manager- of the Exeter
Branch' will be taken over by Brent Dotes who. has been with
National for more than 10 years. He is currently working'in
the Tavistock location. -

ZURICH - The Ladies Auxiliary
held a meeting at the Blue Water
Rest Home on April 1 with a good
attendance of residents and .mem-
. bers who enjoyed a musical" pro-
gram and lunch:
-President Martha Risi opened the .
businegs meeting in the auditorium.
The minutes of the last meeting
were read and the roll call taken by
Mary -Lou Denomme:- The treasur-
er's report was read by ,Mary Du-
charfne. •
Plans are underway to host the
annual spring Region #3 meeting to
be held at the Home on April- 23
under the direction. of past -
.president Donna Klopp and Region •
'#3 representative, Mary Scott from
Stratford. •
Registration will begin at 9:30

Hern. Cost for the day will be $8
which includes lunch. Group lead-

A letter from Huronview invited
the Seniors to an appreciation night
on April: 15 for those who donated
their time and talents at Huronview.
There will be a wine and cheese re-
ception froni 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.. en-
tertainment at 7:30'p.m . arid at' 8
. p.m. dessert and coffee. Those --
planning -on attending must respond
by April 11 by calling 235=0596 or

The Seniors were also invited to

wood Seniors on May 6.

Olga Davis looked into the club':s
constitution and by=laws and it was
decided to have • a group meet for
discussion and bring hack a report
to the club to have ii verified arid
approved.

on "Daffodils". Marlene Mathers,

several pieces. Essery and Mathers
sang a couple of pieces while Wil-

Davis played for them. Davis
also played several numbers on the
piano. • Jason Martene gave his
speech he had given in a speech
contest. Charlie Rollings read sev-
eral poems. Mathers and Kints sang
a special song for Rollings as it was
his birthday. They also sang 'a song
for Beatrice Ballantyne. • Essery
read a poem entitled "Let me take
time for beauty.". •
The Senjors will meet again on
May 6 at 6 p.m. for a potluck meal.
Ice carving champion teaches in Hensall

Hensall, last week where he con-
ducted 'an intensive 45 hour, hands-
on advanced• ice curving course for
chefs and others 'involved in the
man Anatomy.
Students worked inside the 65 x
30 ft. custom-built hcculture freez-
er which is equipped with work
benches and power outlets. They
also attended classroom sessions to
learn ice carving theories, how to
modify -power tools for ice carving,

Britain, Ottawa and northern Onta-
rio registered for three different
sessions - new American Ice Sculp-
ture (the use of power tools); The
Mark Daukas snow -filled logo
technique; Carving Faces and Hu -
see slide presentations and learn to
mold human faces in clay.
Daukas pioneered the use of pow-
er tools for ice carving and a meas-
ure of his success as a sculptor is
reflected in the results of national
and international competition. Dau-
kas has won 46 of the 52 •competi-
tion events that he has entered.
Daukas is- a much sought after
sculptor. speaker and teacher who
has motivated over 500 beginner.
intermediate and advanced carvers
from North America's finest hotels
and clubs. He conducts seminars
and demonstrations throughout
North America and has a client list
of prestigious corporations, clubs
and celebrities - including the Ritz
Carlton, Elizabeth Taylor, Mel Gib-
son, Mercedes Beni and Universal
Pictures. Daukas sculpted a set of
Disney caricatures for Elizabeth
Taylor's well publicized 'Disney-
land birthday. His Hensall stop was
the only course scheduled for Cana-
da this year.
Daukas represented the United
States in the Lillyhamer Winter
Olympics and was awarded the
highest honor. The list of Daukas'
awards and titles in long. In 1989
he became not only the first Ameri-
can to win the World .Champion-
ship, but the first American ever to
triumph over the Japanese in any
ice carving event. Daukas holds the
world record of winning 45 of 52
major national and international
competitions and is undefeated in
the singles competition.
Two local carvers, Peta Bayley
and Kevin Bender who both work
at Iceculture participated. "It's in-
tense to say the least," says Bayley.
"We worked until 3 a.m. on the
first day and well past midnight the
following days."

County Addiction Services will he -
holding an open house in Grand
Bend on April 28 from 2 to 7 p.m. •
'at the Youth Centre. located beside
the firehall.
The one -day session will provide
information about the establish-,
nrent of a. satellite office of Sarnia
General Hosptial's Addiction Ser-
vices. Councillor Shaun Ryan said
it is hoped the Youth Centre will
operate as a satellite office on
Mondays from I to 5 p.m.
Addiction Services provides free
professional out-patient assessment
and treatment services for individ-
uals of any age experiencing prob-
lems with alcohol. drug abuse or
gambling. Services are also availa-
ble for families of such a person.
The LCAS is funded by the Onta-
rio Ministry of Health Suhtance
Abuse Bureau and is sponsored by
•the Sarnia General Hosptital. •
