council meeting- ". Monday
night when members ap-
proved a 'notion by Reeve Si
Simmons that it meet in com-
rn uticc-of-the-whole.
At a previous meeting, Sim-
mons was advised he couldn't
bar the press from a public
meeting of council; he said he
would have the editor cicort-
ed from the meeting by the
police it necessary.. Simmons
was asking editor Bill Batten
for an apology for having re-
vealed that council met in se-
cret session to make• their de-
cisiun on moving the .police
out of the town hall. That situ-
ation failed to. materialize as
the T -A editor .was on -holi-
days for 'the meeting which
was chaired by Simmons. • ,
The reeve did ask reporter
Ross Haugh if he had an apol-
ogy. When he said he did not,
Simmons said he may ask him.

discussion and suggested
council -not get involved in
that type of situation. „
At Monday's meeting when
Batteii was asked to leave by
mayor Bruce Shaw, he re-
plied, "it will be my pleasure.

ket in Hensall has purchased
the Silco store in order to en-

Plans are being made for the
visit to West Middlesex this
week by Prime Minister Dic-
fenhaker and Mrs. Diefenhak-

Lee Learn was grand cham-
pion at the Exeter men's curl-
ing club this week when he
skipped his first draw winner
to victories over the other two
draw champions.

Clinton Collegiate which will

Cornish who two years ago
purchased the Harding resi-
dence on Main Street has dis-
posed of it to Mr. Frank King
of Stephen Township.
E.R. Hopper was elected "a
director of the Western Ontario
District Funeral Service Asso-
ciation at a meeting in,London,
Friday.

April 8, 1922 -Work has
commenced on the excavation
of the basement for the new
Methodist Church in Crediton.
This district was visited with
a downpour of rain during
Monday night. Several cellars
were flooded in town.

HENSALL - Thompson's Fur-
niture and Electronics held a grand
opening at its main street location
on Saturday.
The store has been officially open
since December. Proprietor Rob
Thompson, former reeve of Paisley,
was involved with a family fur-
niture business there before moving
to Hensall under an agreement to
locate his new store at least 50 kilo-
metres away.
"Paisley was the friendly vil-
lage," he• said. "In Hensall. the slo-
gan is living and working. togeth-
er...f love the integrity of the
people.
According to Thompson, the
friendly atmosphere of small town
living makes it easier to do busi-
ness.
Although he enjoys working with
people, claiming "it's fun," he ad-
mits the greatest challenge he faces
is "getting.people to Hensall."
He does, however. rely on
Thompson as a well-known local
name and after two years of de-
liberating where to locate his husi-
ness• with partner .Martin Bachner.
was drawn to what he describes as
the "golden shoreline," a wealthy
retirement community between
Grand Bend and Goderich. •
"There are times in their (lives)
"when people btiy furniture," added
Thompson, '.fisting university stu-
dents, expectant parents and seniors
grieving the loss. of a spouse as
prime customers in the, industry. "1
see people in a lot of different
states'of shock."
Johns cancels meetings
due to house filibuster
HURON COUNTY - Huron
MPP Helen Johns', office has can-
celled all appointments with the
county's member -this week' due to
a filibuster that started when oppo-
sition members began introducing
nearly'13.000 amendments as a
stalling tactic.
The house has been tied op with.
these motion since last Wednesday
- hut a move Sunday by Speaker
Chris Stockwell will shorten the
time taken to hear each amend-
ment. Stockwell ruled the pro-
posed amendment., to Bill 103,
called the rnegacity legislation,'
may be read aloud but only in a
condensed form.
As part of the ruling..S'tockwell
stated the same tactic won't heal -
lowed to be used again to stall
house business. Sunday's ruling is
expetteti to shorten the length of
tirr)e to hear all the amendment
from nearly 70 days'to about five.
Fatigued from 24-hour house sit-
tings. MPRs passed an amendment
that allows for three weeks of pub-
lic hearings to take place if a mini-
mum of 10 residents on a street re-
quest it.
