Perth County
proposed
amalgamation
to proceed
ST. MARYS - A special amal-
gamation Committee will work
out governance details for the
proposed Perth County amalga-
mation. following a vote held
recently during a special meet-
ing. .
The Journal -Argus reports a
new committee may . he formed
to discuss how services will.he
delive ed. The final amalgama<
tion.plan must be submitted to
the province by May 15.
St. Marys, which has refused
to participate in the county amal-
gamation, was excluded from
the process last month when of-
ficials realized both St. Marys
and Stratford, as separated mu-
nicipalities, could havevetoed
the plan.
Blanshard and Downie Town-
ships voted against the proposal
as did Mornington and Wallace.
Because the county operates
with a weighted vote system. the
majority needed to proceed was
achieved.
