the following poem in April 1958.
April Snow .
.When April comes with starry eyes,
Fair'tresses in the laughing breeze.
Our hearts rejoice -in sunny skies,
In singing birds, and budding trees.
We long for wakening hyacinths,
'For violets on wooded hill,
And crocuses that ventureforth,
..To greet the nodding daffodil. •
But. come the days of muddy
hoots,
-Of garden fence all sagging down,
Old grass.•.new mud, in' ditch and
field.
All patterned in a dirty brown.
And suddenly our thoughts return,
To ring of voices on the ice,- ' '
To gleaming trail on mountain -side
That was the skier's paradise. -
To jingle hells On frosty nights,
Snow drifts piled high and clean;
The twinkling. of the .christtnas
•
•
,lights,
And spirits gaily keen.
Then. April graciously retracts, •
To let the shimmering whitens!
fall;
And hearts admit to being glad,
That Winter took his curtaincall.
