Five ringette teams win medals
KITCHENER/WATERLOO - The Exeter and
District Ringette Association sent nine
teams to the Western Ontario Regionals in
Kitchener -Waterloo and five returned with
medals.
Eight out of the nine teams made it to the
finals of their division with the Belles, the
Juniors, the Tween "A" and the Petites "A"
winning gold medals while the Novice Red
an overall effort, the Petite "C" team
missed medal contention.
President Julie Ritchie said the strong
showing proves Exeter is a respected cen-
tre with a strong Ringette program. Exeter
was among the 150 teams vying for a med-
al in four different levels of play at the
mega -tournament which took place on 11
different ice pads.

Hawks ousted
The injury riddled Exeter Junior "D"
Hawks were eliminated from playoff
contention by Seaforth after dropping
four out of six games
By Chris Skalkos
T -A Reporter
SEAFORTH - The Exeter Hawks
lost their bid for a 'second con-
secutive All -Ontario title after los-
ing their fourth game to Seaforth on
Saturday night. -
The defending Junior " cham-
pions were matched up ith Sea -
forth after eliminating
Mitchell- in • four
games, however, Ex-
eter could only muster
two one -goal wins in
the series and finally
bowed to their op-
ponents in the sixth
game losing 3-2. -
Chris McDonald
and Ryan Chamncy
scored the Hawk's
two goals. Dan Taylor
scored Exeter's only goal in the 2-1
loss at home on Friday and Taylor
and Mark Cooper scored in the 9-2
loss they suffered in game four.
Head coach Dave Revington said
he expected the team to go further
but wasn't surprised at the outcome
saying the team has been on a
down -slide since January when
they began to take on injuries and
then missed three games in as many
weeks.
"That kind of set the tone for the
rest of the season. We were doing
pretty good until January but we
never really played as well after
that and instead of improving we
went backwards," said Revington.
Seaforth outscored the Hawks 25
to 15 in the series and Revington
blamed injuries'for their lack of de-
fence and for their inability to
score.
"We w

"We had 10 guys in the Zine -up
who were taped up, our busiest
guys on the team were (trainers}
Jon Passmore and Mike Soldan,"
he said adding defenceman Greg
Goodwin was out with an injury as
was team captain Jason McBride
who's leadership abilities were
sorely missed on the ice.
"if we would have had them I
think we would have
had a better op-
portunity," said Rev-
ington. "Being
healthy right from the
start would have
made a Sig differ-
ence."
Even with a full
line-up Exeter was in
for a tough series. It
took the Hawks sev-
en games to eliminate
Scaforth last year on the road to
their first All -Ontario champion-
ship in 20 years and Seaforth beat
Exeter twice before the regular sea-
son was over.
Revington also credits Seaforth's
goaltender. Scott Wood for being a
key obstacle in both series.
"He was a factor last year and
this year he was even better," he
said.
The loss was a disappointment
for the fans who supported the team
throughout the season but ac-
cording to Revington that wasn't
shared in the dressing room.
"Some of the guys didn't take it
as hard as they should have," he
said adding there was a lack of mo-
tivation and discipline among some
of the players. "They were com-
placent and didn't work as hard as
they could have."
